SYLVESTER, Wis. -- A deer unknowingly assisted law enforcement Friday morning after a crash involving the animal led to a woman's arrest, the Green County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies were called to the 4300 block of State Highway 59, northeast of Monroe in the Town of Sylvester, just before 6 a.m. for a report of a car hitting a deer.
Officials said a 46-year-old Browntown woman was driving east when a deer ran into the road and struck her car. The vehicle was damaged but the airbags did not deploy. The woman was uninjured.
Upon further investigation, deputies found that the woman had an outstanding warrant for failure to support. She was arrested and taken to the Green County Jail. She was also cited for operating without a valid license.
News 3 Now is not naming the woman at this time as part of a policy not to name people accused of crimes until they have been formally charged in court.
> I ended up trying to drive behind the big rigs if possible so I wouldn’t have to hit a deer.
My mom taught me how to draft big rigs in her VW in the 60s. We’d start a trip in the predawn hours in East Texas. Ostensibly she learned the trick to “save gas” in West Texas. Occasionally I’d see a deer flying off ahead or worse. After seeing cars totaled by deer I got the message.
Sadly state troopers/HP stopped accepting that as an excuse during the Clinton Administration.
Here in New England a lot of deer cluster near the highway in winter licking up road salt. They are not very traffic savvy, about as bright as squirrels.
I hit my first deer last year after 48 years of driving in this deer-infested state - some sort of record!
I was in my VW Golf, and it was a small buck. He bounced off the hood of the car (I was going about 45), stuck the landing and ran off. Luckily I saw his ‘friend’ in the ditch attempting to try the same stunt.
Teenagers! They think they’re invincible!
Just a dent in the hood - not even worth pounding out as the car is a 2001 and she just celebrated her 22nd birthday with still under 59K miles on her. :)
LOL!
She didn’t have a license, so probably lost it due to drugs or alcohol. Probably has a few kids in the mix, so most likely someone else has custody of them and she wasn’t making her child support payments, or she was still paying fines for other previous crimes.
Just a guess, but more likely than not. People drink BIG in ‘Sconny. It’s not unusual for the ‘Professional Drunks’ to rack up 6-7-8 DUIs.
Our neighbor was killed in a head-on crash by a drunk young woman at 2pm on a Wednesday. He was just out running everyday farm errands. Those kinds of senseless deaths are hard to take. :(
Yep. Peak rut starts on Wednesday this week. This buck was just jumping the gun, as it were. Bwaa-Haaa-Haaa! Bow Season is open, now.

Since when do deer run into cars?<<<
It’s all based on a points system.
They buck the trends because they are are fawned of doing whatever they want.
That’s why they’re called game animals.
Doe'nt make be come over there.
Meant to add, according to the ‘calculator’ at that site, they predict about 1,000 car/deer accidents at the peak of the rut...in my county alone!
It’s wild out there! I never drive at night Fall through Winter. I have Beau drive and we take ‘The Big Truck,’ the F350 Ford which has survived three deer and a steer hits so far. ;)
I herd it's because some Hollyweird STAG members jumped the picket lines again. Those strikers have no hart!
“Deer strike leads to woman’s arrest for outstanding warrant (WI)”
I think they were members of the IBWD - International Brotherhood of Wisconsin Deer, but don’t know what they were striking about.
It’s been a number of years, but my astronomy club has used a quarry in Green county aa a dark sky site for setting up our telescopes. I used to drive up there
and it was nothing but farmland, woods, and country roads. This time of year we would see a LOT of dear. I’ve been lucky not to hit any.
I didn't know deer were that regimented?
That really ticks a deer off.
LOL, you win the thread Oscar with your sublyme humor!
“I ended up trying to drive behind the big rigs if possible so I wouldn’t have to hit a deer.”
1) My retired neighbor drove big rigs. When I told him of seven deer lying on the side of the road, he said, “Deer will run into the side of a big rig, and the driver isn’t even slightly aware of the mayhem left behind him.”
2) Two cars were involved in a daylight deer-strike that I witnessed. The deer was scooped up by the hood, flew into the air, and crushed the windshield of a Nissan 380Z.
Nobody was hurt, but deer-strikes account for a surprising number of fatalities: annually, 120 Americans.
Ace officials say the deer’s motive is unknown.
Obviously suicide. Even deer get depressed.
