SYLVESTER, Wis. -- A deer unknowingly assisted law enforcement Friday morning after a crash involving the animal led to a woman's arrest, the Green County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies were called to the 4300 block of State Highway 59, northeast of Monroe in the Town of Sylvester, just before 6 a.m. for a report of a car hitting a deer.
Officials said a 46-year-old Browntown woman was driving east when a deer ran into the road and struck her car. The vehicle was damaged but the airbags did not deploy. The woman was uninjured.
Upon further investigation, deputies found that the woman had an outstanding warrant for failure to support. She was arrested and taken to the Green County Jail. She was also cited for operating without a valid license.
News 3 Now is not naming the woman at this time as part of a policy not to name people accused of crimes until they have been formally charged in court.
The deer's not talking, either! ;)
They are also not giving the name of the deer, or saying whether it survived the ordeal. Should get a medal or something for helping law enforcement.
The woman has relatives that work at the press.
Since when do deer run into cars?
A former coworker had a deer run directly into his pickup’s left door one morning. Put a huge dent into it.
The door, that is. The deer got up and ran off.
After hitting a Deer, 2nd one crossing the road, I became more alert ad when I saw one cross on a back country road I basically was able to stop to wait for the others to cross, there's usually more than one. When stopped, a deer jumped into the side of by car.
”Justice is cervid.”
Deer do run into cars all the time. In Wisconsin where I live, on state and county two lane highways deer will run across the road. Then half the group will be on one side while the other decide if its safer to be on the other side. Even as you slowly creep past, the males will butt your car if its between them and the group. Sometimes babies and mothers will frantically run right into the side of your car as you come between them. Not knowing that there was a second baby on the wrong side of the road.
This is so common here, they have a saying. “If you have not been hit by a deer, you don’t live in Wisconsin.” Our car insurance is higher because of it.
Arrested for failure to support? Support what?
I’ve had deer run into my cars twice.
On full speed run the slammed into the driver’s door once and passenger door once. Lots of damage too.
Since when do deer run into cars?
Quite often actually, not uncommon at all.
Deer have run into the side of two of my cars. Caused $4000 in damages.Several hundred pounds of leaping animal seriously dent fenders and doors.
Isn’t it rutting season? Vehicle-deer collisions go up this time of year.
I was following my parents through a residential area and watched a whitetail deer slam into the back left door of their car as they drove maybe 30 mph. Another time I was in the truck when a young buck jumped a fence and was eviscerated immediately by the front bumper. Yet come hunting season you wouldn’t get within shooting distance of him. Another time one slammed into the side of my dad’s truck that had a huge cabover camper as we drove maybe 10 mph on a ranch road.
I sit corrected.
On a trip up nort’ to da U.P. I counted 35 deer in and around the road. At one point, I counted 17 loitering on M-35 as I picked my way through the herd.
I guess I got lucky . . .
Now that’s frondeer justice.
I have family in upstate, rural Pennsylvania - they told me over dinner to be wary of deer running out onto the highway at night - they’re somehow attracted to headlights and will jump fences to get onto the road. I was told to drive straight into the deer and not try to veer around it if a crash was inevitable.
Sure enough, in the mornings we’d see dead deer along the highway. Scared me to death - I ended up trying to drive behind the big rigs if possible so I wouldn’t have to hit a deer. They considered this a normal part of life, of driving at night...
“Since when do deer run into cars?”
All the time. The woman who tends the yard for a couple of our neighbors bought a brand new Toyota Tundra pickup truck. She hadn’t had it but a couple weeks when BAM! A deer ran out and hit her truck. Hit it right behind the passenger door. Moments later...you guess it. BAM! Another deer following the first hit the pickup truck bed.
The dents were huge. The dent in the cab was right where the metal is strongest at the corner, too.
If only deer could read and would cross only where there is a “Deer Crossing” sign.
