The guy says the stores aren't closing because of crime, but because they're "not profitable".

Yeah, genius, it's hard to be profitable when a large portion of your merchandise is being stolen.

Ruh Roh! Moochie will not be happy with this variety store desert being created in these sedate, peaceful locales. Stores like target need to be better members of the community. Oh, wait. Never mind.

LOL...that article you linked to has a photo of the "90% Off" shelf at Target. On the shelf is this bottle of Unisom...

Looks like somebody took the 100% discount.

The shelves are full of nicotine products. I guess nobody in that neighborhood is trying to kick the habit.

Well, vote for liberal politicians and get liberal results. It seems that the primary principle of liberalism is to refuse to hold people responsible for their actions. And failing to hold people responsible has consequences.

San Francisco was once a beautiful city. My grandparents managed an apartment building there, and we visited all the time. The museums are fantastic and Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman’s Wharf were great places to visit. And BART was a wonderful state-of-the-art metro system.

I wonder if San Francisco will try to go the same route as Washington, DC, where the tourist areas are kept clean and crime is controlled, while the slums are basically abandoned to their own toxicity? Or is it too late for San Francisco to even try to contain crime within the slums?

This guy has a YouTube channel showing the commercial and real estate decline in cities and neighborhoods, focusing primarily on SF, Oakland, and Berkeley.

The Embarcadero Center, once a pretty ritzy shopping complex, has zero tenants. None. It’s a circle of crime, downtown decay and Amazon and Walmart offering same day, or next day delivery of practically everything one needs.

Amazon and Walmart is not to blame for the closing of restaurants and cafes however. People would patronize these business if the areas weren’t such $hitholes.

Correct on both points. And it has been getting worse for a very long time. I remember visiting SF in 1998, and even back then I couldn't believe what a craphole it was compared to NYC. It was worse when I was there in 2003, and it was MUCH worse the last time I was there, in 2018, as were Seattle and Portland. I can hardly imagine what they're like now, though I've seen enough photos and videos to have a pretty good idea.

Really sad.
