Influencer sentenced to 2 years in prison for filming herself uttering Islamic phrase, eating pork in Bali

A woman has been sentenced to two years in prison over a viral TikTok video she filmed herself eating pork while traveling in Bali, Indonesia.

Lina Lutfiawati, who goes by the name Lina Mukherjee, had recited an Islamic phrase before eating crispy pork skin on camera.

Eating pork is strictly forbidden in Islam and Islam is the dominant religion in Indonesia.

The 33-year-old, who identifies as Muslim, has more than 2 million followers on the social media platform.

Mukherjee said she tried pork out of curiosity, according to the BBC, which also reported she was traveling in Bali at the time the video was filmed.

While Indonesia is a Muslim-majority country, the majority of the population on the popular holiday island of Bali identify as Hindu.

In the video Mukherjee can be heard saying “Bismillah,” which means “in the name of God” in Arabic.

She’s a 33 y/o woman, who knew exactly how her actions would be viewed by the local public. I expected the Influencer to be some 13 year old rebellious smart aleck who bit off more than she could chew, just to get more clicks.

An adult native to that part of the world should know better. It’s like seeing someone born in Dubai filming themselves while playing golf in the nude, then uploading it online. What do you think the reaction will be?

Yes,I suppose that's the right thing to do. I've traveled a bit...only a bit...in the Middle East. As a result I'm somewhat familiar with Islam as an every day thing in moslem countries. And moslems take that stuff seriously.For example,while in the UAE I stayed in a nice,but not luxurious,hotel that had a great breakfast buffet. But the sausages were made of turkey and the bacon was made of beef.

If she is a moslem then it's hard to imagine that she knew pork was “haram”.
