A retired Australian couple became the stars of the sea as they spent nearly 500 days cruising around the world after booking 51 back-to-back cruises.
Marty and Jess Ansen took off on their first cruise on June 16, 2022, after a long two years of strict COVID-19 lockdowns in Australia. They have yet to stop, booking a total of 51 trips so far.
The great-grandparents have stayed on board Princess Cruises’ 2,000-passenger Coral Princess for more than 450 days — longer than most of the crew, including the captains — and expect to stay onboard the ship for two years.
“Eventually, I said to my [travel] agent: ‘Look, what ever comes, just book it,'” Marty told A Current Affair.
The couple claim it’s cheaper to cruise around the world for two years than pay for a retirement home.
“It’s our lifestyle,” Jess told the outlet. The couple enjoyed cruises for decades prior to making it their full-time living situation.
Among the perks of the lifestyle are that there’s always something to do, from dancing to dinner, and it comes with a maid to clean your room.
“Where else can you go where you go for dinner, you go to a show, you go dancing?” Jess said. “Through the day, you have all these activities.”

Well, you can’t take it with you. Might as well enjoy your earnings now. Maybe their children or grandchildren don’t deserve any inheritance.
Their point was that they would spend the money either way, so they decided to spend it on something they like more.
My aunt died on a cruise after an accidental dramamine overdose (she was in her early 70s) so I don’t recommend it.
>> so I don’t recommend it.
What don’t you recommend? Dramamine, or cruising? :-)
Sounds interesting until one considers the level of health care.
I am in my early 70’s. I was just in an ER for 5 hours on Friday and required a sonogram and a ct scan. These would not be available on a cruise ship.
Continuous cruising is cheaper than a retirement home? That’s hard to believe. I’d like to see the numbers.
That was my first thought too
And after watching a couple of old Titanic movies, I think I’ll pass
Spending so much time on a cruise in old age that you risk dying from it.
Princess Coral runs cruises at $46 per night per person (a little over $100 a day for a couple). Typically food and on board entertainment is included.
Repeat passengers get discounts, credits, free upgrades, etc. So long as you go light on the bar tab and don’t do excursions, you can keep the daily bill low.
Retirement homes cost between $2,000 and $5,000 per person per month.
Yeah, they are spending it wisely.
I am definitely going to bookmark this to consider once my boys had to college and I don’t need to keep my house.
Retirement homes can easily be 10 grand a month. That’s for a single room, single person. 7500 for a 2 person room. Cruises aren’t more expensive than a decent hotel. If those two aren’t spending on a deluxe room, cruises are actually pretty cheap. They have reasonable med facilities on board, possibly more than you’d expect. Plus, if those two are frequent cruisers, they could be getting significant discounts.
Maybe if you were on a Cruise Ship you wouldn’t need Medical care.
Just sayin’
You claiming they would be available at a retirement home?!

You are right. Breath lots of salt air to breathe in. Lounge outside and get sun. Swim in the salt water pools onboard. You will extend your life
I’ve never seen a U-Haul behind a hearse.
Just think if there were orgy cruises.
Just think about it
They’re fools.
