BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) replaced Ford as the world's fourth best-selling auto brand last month, as the latter's sales slumped in Europe and the US, market research firm TrendForce said in a report today.
In August, vehicle sales in 37 markets worldwide totaled 5.55 million units, up about 1 percent from July, according to the report.
The composition of the top 10 auto brands was the same as last month, with Toyota, Volkswagen and Honda in the top three.

Yes, the EV market is exploding.
The world will soon be full of Win Tong Cool Breeze vehicles.Poluting the environment with decomposed battery dust.

OIl COmpanies? Eat sh*t ? Yeah right, over my dead piston.
“... Ford sales slump ...”
To understand why the sales slump and if your heart can stand it, take a stroll thru a Ford new vehicle sales lot. Many sticker prices are over $100,000 and many more are close to that. The low-end vehicles start around $30,000 but prices rise quickly from there.
No EV’s for me. Y’all that may have not gotten around to looking at Kia...just my $.02. *Built in the USA*. I get paid to evaluate Kia dealerships sales associates knowledge and selling technique. In that process I have been blown away by the value-per-dollar...(bang-per-buck) that Kia offers. The Telluride line is 10/10 on all levels far as I can tell. The Sorrento is possibly even moreso. Amazing vehicles and best reputation in the industry. Best warranty in the industry. The Kia brand has evolved beautifully and is nothing like it was when it started.
Am I the only guy on this thread who never heard of BYD before reading this article?
I can name at least 15 international car companies.
BYD?
No idea!
Are they strictly EV producers?
Will they still be in business five years from now?
Since they are ultimately controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, I guess the answer is yes.
Recently, CEO Jim Farley took a road trip down Rt 66 from Silicon Valley to LA to Las Vegas with the Ford F-150 Lightning and was stunned by how difficult the charging experience was.
Musk would know every detail of such stuff at Tesla, but Farley doesn't?
Ford executives are a cloistered lot. They don't like to get their hands dirty.
Kia and another Asian brand (I forget which one) are the two most stolen cars in King County (Seattle).
A few years, I compared a used Honda Pilot to similar new US body styles. Absolutely no regrets.
They are big in China.
Started in batteries I think, but they got together also with some American who seems to have been a very good influence on things.
China is moving very fast in this market.
Never heard of it either... if it’s not American it’s irrelevant to me.
Ford could sell 5x the number of mavericks they make
But nope. No more production
No, I’ve been reading about them via investment articles. Big-time sellers in China and other parts of the world, but not here YET.
I hadn’t heard of it, before npw, either.
“Am I the only guy on this thread who never heard of BYD before reading this article?”
I’m not a guy, but I never heard of it before, either.
They cut production of the Maverick?! They just started selling the damn thing two years ago.
I’m not a guy, but I never heard of it before, either.
I thought I kept fairly close tabs on what the auto industry was doing, but I don't know who BYD is, either. What brands do they sell?
So are the EVs.
