LAWTON, Okla. (KFOR) – An Oklahoma property owner living near the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is outraged after he said two bison that wandered onto his property were shot and killed by refuge workers.
“It’s horrid,” said David Folkert.
On Sunday, Folkert’s mother was delighted to spot two bison roaming her property, just behind his land near a dried up creek
“Shortly after that, two Wichita wildlife refuge employees knocked on her front door, inquiring about the two buffalo,” said Folkert.
Then, Folkert said they left
On Monday, Folkert caught the lingering smell of death from his property.
“If I can smell it down here from up there. It’s horrible,” said Folkert.
That’s when Folkert spotted the two bison laying lifeless on the rocks. They’d been shot.
Folkert was livid. He said he drove to the wildlife refuge, a mile from his home, to get answers.
“I visited with an employee out at the refuge, at the visitor center, and he confirmed that two refuge employees did in fact shoot the buffalo on our property,” said Folkert. “For them to come on our property, and not tell us, and to execute two healthy buffalo, that could’ve been saved, herded back, maybe even tranquilized and airlifted out.”

The operative words here are federal workers. 😏
Plenty of Buff’s living off the Wichita Refuge....I live in this State.....A person can hunt on the Refuge...if they sign up and get drawn. It’s like a Lottery.....But PLENTY of Bison and deer leave that Refuge....and private land owners have Bison and Deer on their property.
They would have been just fine in My freezer and on the Grille !!! That’s Thousands of Dollars worth of great meat ALL WASTED BY STUPID GOOBERMINT DUMBA$$€$...
They simply wandered from a National Preserve, and are an ENDANGERED SPECIES, BIDEN IS KILLING OFF. Why do you think we’ve had all these wildfires set by climate nuts? Distract you from their destruction of areas that could hold edible food.
A bunch of Freepers made fun of me for reporting a few stray cows, that had wandered onto a National Preserve, because of downed fencing, the Feds said they were causing damage, about a dozen does not make a wild herd. Like the wild horses, which they are rounding up with choppers, killing several. I think they did the same to some Bison at another Refugee.
Chances are, if you have a ranch anywhere near the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in OK, you have some connection to those critters, already.
I learned by living in Montana that you shouldn't ring the dinner bell, like gut piles near the house. A couple of buffalo carcasses will draw many in. Yes, they are out there. I was just more comfortable with them being further out there.
Wolves will then start attacking cattle of the landowner.

“We’re from the government, and we’re here to help...”
I used to live near this wildlife refuge and would go there on weekends. It’s beautiful in the cooler months and at night. There are also wild, longhorn cattle in the refuge. Between the buffalo and longhorns all that’s missing are some Comanche indians and cowboys. And they’re there too.
Sad articles. The govt always makes it much worse than need be.
I’ve visited quite a few wildlife refuges in CA, ID, and MT. They are all very beautiful. It’s great we are preserving g those areas.
“Oh give me a home
Where the buffalo roam,
and I’ll show you a house fulla dung...”
yup, and if he went out and harvested some of the meat, they prolly would have arrested him for it...
Without a doubt. And probably tried to pin it on him being the shooter.
“They believed they had no choice”.

But, they did have a choice when it came to shooting them and then just leaving the dead animals on private property for the owners to deal with (and smell). If they thought it was necessary to kill the animals, they should have had a disposal plan in place for the carcasses. Now, coyotes and other predator type animals will be drawn in by the smell. The meat could have been given to meat processors to process and provide food for low-income families or food banks. What a waste!
“Government employees” are so stupid!
ENDANGERED SPECIES, BIDEN IS KILLING OFF.
No, Buffalo are not an endangered species. They are overpopulating their allotted range and the population has to be managed.
They are still on the list.
