Iconic actor Michael Caine hinted in an interview Tuesday that his upcoming movie could be the last he’s in.
“I am bloody 90 now, and I can’t walk properly and all that. I sort of am retired now,” Caine told The Telegraph.
Caine’s final film appearance could be in his upcoming movie, “The Great Escaper,” which tells the story of a War World II veteran who escaped his nursing home to make his way to France to attend the 70th anniversary of D-Day, the outlet reported. The movie is based on the real life experience of British naval officer Bernie Jordan who participated in the famous operation and escaped from his nursing home to attend the ceremony of the event back in 2014, Military.com reported.
Caine is himself a British veteran of a war.
“[W]hen I was 19 they sent me to Korea – which was not a very nice idea for your 19th birthday. I wasn’t a big professional soldier, and it wasn’t a big war,” Caine told The Telegraph. He compared the Korean War to World War I in how it was fought and his experiences in the trenches.
“The Korean War was like the First World War, we all lived in trenches and fought each other in the dark; but I was still s—t scared, as everybody else was. So I understood those things – death and close friends dying and getting injured,” he told the outlet.
“I was so happy to do it…I just loved the character of Bernie. I thought he was incredible, and it’s so beautifully written,” Caine added.
Caine also mused about his own mortality and life accomplishments in the interview.
“Everybody’s going to die. At least I’ve lived to f—g 90; I didn’t die at nine, or 19, or 29. I’m 90, and I’ve had the best possible life I could have thought of. The best possible wife, and the best possible family. They may not be a family that other people would say is the best possible family – but the best possible family for me,” he said.
Caine has appeared in many films like the Christopher Nolan “Batman” trilogy, “Interstellar,” “Kingsman,” and “Inception,” according to IMDb.
This is not the first time it’s been reported that Caine’s next film will be his last. Back in October 2021, similar reports were swirling around the internet but were later debunked, Collider reported.
No No NO, 90 is now 50! KJP said Biden’s 80 is like 40 now.
So, you have to subtract 40 years. I am now 43 haha. Who cares if my birth certificate says I am 83.
Caine is head and shoulders above Steve Martin in that one.
Even made Blame It On Rio, watchable.
Biden’s 80 is like 40 now.........
Maybe in Dog Years...................🤦♂️
Not a mean feat :)
Secondhand Lions is another good one.
Michael Caine wasn’t in that. That was Barry Newman.
Michelle Johnson’s (O)Y(O) made it even more so.
British actors tend not to be terribly precious about their rolls. They also don’t tend to negotiate as high a salary, thus the invasion of recent years. They show up, they do the job, they go to the next. Caine’s line about Jaws 3 is the epitome of the British attitude. He’s never seen the movie, he’s heard it stinks, but he bought a lovely house with the check.
I must admit at the time, I had the biggest crush on Demi Moore.
She came off as really awkward in the movie. Flat chested (before her surgery) and obviously more than a tad envious of Michelle.
So did i. Two of my favorites he’s been in, a bridge to far, and Harry Brown. If you haven’t seen Harry Brown watch it. It is a British version of death wish. Except I think it is better than death wish.
I admire the women who aren’t ashamed of the little mother nature gave them in the “oh so important s/” boob dept. A woman shouldn’t be made to feel inferior as a human female simply because she has less fat that sticks out on her chest but such is the way of things.
I’m referencing a scene where the two actresses decided to go topless for swimming like the local Brazilian ladies. What made it a little weird was that it was believable with the voluptuous Michelle Johnson wanting to show off and frolic. Demi Moore clearly looked very uncomfortable, like she was a kidnap victim or something, or forced to do the scene at gunpoint. She kept awkwardly trying to move her arms to cover herself up for the camera. Plenty of small-chested women might have no problem with the scene, but Demi looked mortified. She seemed to later acquire more “confidence” post-augmentation.
Well, Im in the category of those old enough to know better but young enough to do it anyway and my doctors have informed me that I will not ever achieve being too old.
I also wonder what I should do since I still can do much even if not for long.
I can only watch the waves come in so many times. Ive seen just about all the sunsets I really need to see. Dont want to waste too much time waiting for a big fish or a trophy deer to walk by.
I always wanted to hike the full length of the Appalachian trail but between arthritis, sciatica, and PAD, I dont think Ill I have that much time even if I did have a couple decades left.
Dont have the money to engage in space tourism...
I can see why he WOULD do another movie, maybe bits in a couple more time permitting. It sounds like he may not have an option to do a great deal else. It may be that this has consumed to much of his life that this is what he knows and has become part of so he needs to continue to be part of something.
You hear about so many men retiring just to wind up spending the rest of their years working on whatever they did as jobs when they were younger. Ive hated every job I ever had except being in a band and being in the military.
Im not too embarrassed to admit that I probably couldnt fill a venue like Keith Richards or even Tommy Shondell still can. I couldnt swim well enough to be pararescue the first time around so even if recruitment is down they probably dont need me now either except maybe as shark bait to get someone more useful out.
I just dont know.
If you, or anyone for that matter, has an idea Id like to hear it too. Maybe there is something that someone who is too old would like to do but cant. Maybe since Im young enough to do it anyway then maybe I could do it for them?
If it legal, hell, maybe even if its not, Ill consider it and get all the footage of the places and events.
One of the greats, and he always had a terrific work ethic. Very old school: “I’m an actor; naturally I want the best role I can find and I appreciate a big paycheck, but if I’m not working, I’m not earning my keep.” Show up, turn in an honest day’s work, move on to the next job.
He also has one of the great stories about how he got his eyes opened. He was a working class British yute without a posh education and no great prospects. This was in the early 1950’s, and he was called up for his then-unavoidable military service just in time to go to Korea. There he found himself behind a machine gun watching the Chinese human wave assaults rolling up the hill at him. That is when, his youthful vaguely leftist ideas notwithstanding, he started to think there might be something wrong with communism.
Maybe some big organization needs a test dummy.
Maybe NASA needs to send someone to the moon to see if their new pup tent works or something like that. :)
How would one even go about finding dumb jobs to volunteer for?
Maybe you need to look at things a bit differently.
Im thinking that Im invincible because Im already dead, it just hasnt happened yet.
Maybe Boeing needs a monkey for a new craft? I think Id could be a pretty convincing one.
Good for you 👍🏻
Tons of great movies especially war movies
