A British woman surprised her American husband by making a bacon sandwich the traditional 'English' way - and says he was bowled over by the tasty treat. But her recipe for the perfect snack has left many others in the US in uproar.
Caroline Parker, who now lives in Boston, Massachusetts, recently took to TikTok to divulge the secrets to the popular dish.
The mom-of-two revealed the ingredients that go into the perfect creation and also revealed that the key was not toasting the bread.
But other social media users were left stunned by the process and did not hold back in the comments.
In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 2.1 million times, Caroline can be seen standing in her kitchen as she speaks directly to camera.
Holding a frozen loaf of bread and pack of bacon, she begins: 'I am going to make my American husband an English bacon sandwich because I went to the Irish shop... don't ask me how much I spent.'
She defrosts the bread as she explains: 'There's a big difference between American and English bread - if you know, you know.'
Caroline continues: 'Compared to American bacon, you have to put a little bit of oil in the pan because it just has less fat.
'Obviously with streaky bacon, you don't need oil. I made that mistake when I first moved here.
'I prefer my bacon like this but that is definitely just because I'm used to it. This is what we eat back home. I don't know if my husband likes it like this but he's going to have it.'
She lets the bacon cook away in a frying pan before turning her attention to making the perfect bready base.

Here in the states we call English bacon Canadian bacon.
UGH American bacon is the only type served in this house.
lots of wild boars in the state make chops and bacon
plentiful for pork lovers/eaters.
long john silvers is basically just english fish and chips.
I agree re BLT.
I have had the gamut of BLTs though. From sublime to “what!?”
Interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever been to one.
That joke is probably at least 3-4 decades old.
Don’t forget to add the vinegar. English love a sprinkle
of vinegar on their fish/chips. Why? No idea but they
do crave that taste. On fish maybe. On chips why bother.
yeah, I dont think many people know. I didn’t myself until I was in England a few years ago and thought.. well I might as well try fish and chips! ... um... THIS IS LONG JOHN SILVERS! was what I discovered.
I’d agree that LGS is an American fast food take on Brit fish and chips. I loved them decades ago when I was in high school.
If you’re ever in Boston, Legal Seafood near the aquarium and the Long Wharf Marriott has EXCELLENT fish and chips. Not cheap, but excellent.
In the north Atlanta suburbs there is a small chain of English pubs that do quite good fish and chips. Huw Thomas is a good guy.

Sounds like that book is a Christmas gift waiting to happen.
I believe that would be a malt
vinegar. Regular vinegar makes
the fish taste like a jar of
dill pickles.
Malt vinegar would make more sense. Still, who really wants
to eat soggy fried fish? Dill pickles; much prefer gread and gutter pickles, Kosher dills. Sweet pickle relish is a ‘o to’
here.
There’s that joke about how the Brits spent centuries conquering nations and stealing their spices…only to never use any of them. ;)
Malt vinegar(used in modernation)
enhances the flavor of the cod.
(Usually the fish of choice)
in fish and chips.
I love seafood. Pacific coast
preferably.
Scallops, abalone, king crab,
halibut.
I also like the east coast chowders
and lobster.
Chowders, favor New England over Manhattan. And fried clams
Love those little critters w/tarter sauce.
Spanish Paella is sensational as well.
Worked not too far from Howard Johnson. Every Fri the office
girls went to HoJos for lunch. All you could hope for in
seafood favorites. LOL and their ice cream hot fudge cake wasn’t so bad either!
I’ve never heard that before...but it sounds spot on!! lol.
Is Scotch Ham the same as Canadian Bacon. When I was a little girl, I would walk to the market in the village and buy Scotch Ham for my Father’s Birthday dinner. His Mother came from England, so I grew up on English food: sausage and mashed potatoes, Shepherd’s pie, bubble and squeak, (sliced potatoes, onions, and cabbage), fish and chips, steak and mushroom pies, and sausage rolls. Desserts for Christmas use to be mince pies and fruit cake soaked in bourbon.
I liked Arthur Treachers. I was sad when it went away.
A friend who was living in Cambridge after marrying a Brit girl put it this way. He said “There’s plenty of great food in England, it’s just that none of it is English”.
Hell.
Where the Food is English
The Cars are French
The Police are German
The Lovers are Swiss
And the whole thing is run by Italians
This is how Free Republic degenerates to the level of TikTok. Why come here if we are in an UPROAR over bacon? I usually want to discuss things that actually matter. It’s harder and harder to support the service financially and then you get people who use Free Republic as a vehicle to bring attention to Denys Davidoff every single day and every single article posted on Medical Xpress gets mirrored here as well. Then there are the daily look at me threads posting the latest death count from COVID and all the damage to Russian military equipment. Fortunately that is slowing down. I hope that Medical Xoress guy is donating something. Meanwhile we have Rumble now to get people talking about actual pertinent issues.
