It is highly unlikely that Governor DeSantis will win the GOP nomination. The recent Wall Street Journal poll has cemented this into my head.
Yet, I'm sticking with DeSantis until he's out of the race, whether that be on Election Day (unlikely) or he ends his campaign during the primaries (as of now, quite likely).
I'm sticking with him because nobody else has the record of conservative accomplishments and stalwart executive leadership that he has repeatedly demonstrated. I look for action, not words.
This being said, Governor DeSantis has showed himself to be poor campaigner. He just can't close the deal. And as much as I enjoyed the victories, I think his "war on woke" has hurt him.
The best chance he has now is to pivot to economic issues, which are Trump's strong points (at least for the first three years of his administration). But Florida has a booming economy as well, with a record $22 billion surplus last year.
This pivot will be a long shot and is unlikely to be successful because he would be going up against President Trump's strongest attributes.
This will be an election on the economy and when gas prices at the pump exceed $6-7/gallon next year (and I believe they will), Trump will remind us all that we were paying under $2/gallon for much of his first term. This is going to be a big selling point. If Trump screwed up everything in 2020, he had a booming economy with plenty of jobs and low interest rates prior to that. This can't be denied.
I am resigning myself to the reality that the primaries are essentially over and Trump will be the GOP nominee. And if he is, I will vote for Trump because at the end of the day, Trump is better than Biden. Hell, Nikki Haley, Chris Christie, Tim Scott, and Vivek Ramaswamy are better than Biden!
It's a shame though. GOP primary voters would rather be led by a cult of personality than a true executive leader with a record of accomplishments. It is what it is though.
I hope Trump can pull it off. His victory will depend on Biden voters staying home.
I hope that Trump can learn from his many mistakes and not repeat them.
I hope Trump can reconcile his disastrous record on COVID.
I hope that Trump can beat back against the myriad of unjust charges that he is currently facing.
Still, Ron DeSantis is the leader that Trump tries to be and that's the truth.
And when he keeps bashing DeSantis with lies, it only shows Trump as the sad, little man that he has become. He should as of now, stop being be this sad, little man.
I hope Trump can rise above this. As of now, he will earn my vote, but he needs to become a better man.
Personally, I think you are full of sea water. Where were you when President Trump was building the wall.. I am sick of Trans-Republicans pretending to be what they literally can never be.. (Yeah, I know I ended the last sentence with a preposition.) There is literally a legion of sanctimonious, pious, self-righteousness snobs who offer nothing worthy of anything but the local spit and whittle club.
DeSantis flipping Florida red and getting a friendly legislature elected on his coattails is evidence of his leadership abilities.
Trump losing the House and being forced to legislate by Executive Order is evidence of his leadership abilities.
Desantis will make a great president
Spit and whittle.. He needs to pay off his student loans and apprentice a private sector business first.. Thus far, he is a ward of the state, out selling himself to billionaires doing cattle calls.
“DeSantis flipping Florida red and getting a friendly legislature elected on his coattails is evidence of his leadership abilities.”
DeSantis did not flip Florida. Trump did, remember; he won Florida first. And DeSantis was losing until Trump campaigned for him, pulled him from way behind, and DeSantis was able to sqeeze out a victory.
“Trump losing the House and being forced to legislate by Executive Order is evidence of his leadership abilities.”
Trump did not lose the House. He had the RINOs sabotaging him, and it is normally in this country for the administration to lose the midterm elections.
But to compare the forces arrayed against Trump with the minute state forces arrayed against DeSantis shows a lack of good sense.
Trump losing the House and being forced to legislate by Executive Order is evidence of his leadership abilities.
Desantis is the clear choice for me. He can beat anything the Democrats throw as candidate, other presidents have promised including trump and not delivered. I need to give DeSantis the nod
I intend to continue to support DeSantis at every opportunity because he's far and away the more competent of the two. It's disheartening to see him slip away in the polls and I'm not going to deny it's happening.
At the end of the day, I didn't have to abandon every conservative principle that I've ever held to support DeSantis.
President Trump is a squish on the 2nd Amendment.
That’s a concern. He has shown no regret or contrition about the bump stock ban and how he used the Deep State to enact more gun control.
His comments about red flag laws call into question his commitment to due process regarding such laws.
DeSantis clearly has the better record regarding the 2nd Amendment. But he’s a non-glitzy campaigner. And glitz and schtick mean a lot to voters.
It is just amazing to me that after what was done to Kavanagh any thinking person could confuse quality of evidence with number of accusers or the acting ability of those accusers.
We will never know.
That’s a concern. He has shown no regret or contrition about the bump stock ban and how he used the Deep State to enact more gun control.
And that's because Trump is not, nor has ever been a conservative.
He's a 90's-style New York liberal who embraced populism as his ticket to the White House.
I have zero doubt that if Nancy Pelosi was able to drop an Assault Weapon Ban on his desk, he'd have signed it.
You seem like a retread of forYourChildrenVote4Bush
Same odd repeated statement with awkward syntex. Well come back.
He is clearly the the superior candidate that others have failed to see
Trump supporters don’t seem to see through all his lies.
I believed trump in 2016 but he really didn’t deliver. I supported trump during 2020 but I now have moved on.
There is still time for desantis to be more aggressive in the debates. I believe in him. I was a bit disappointed in the first debate he wasn’t more aggressive but there is time left.
I came across this today
During the first GOP Presidential Debate, @RonDeSantis told a strange story about how he met an “Angel Mom” from Texas named “Tracy” @GoldStar_2Step whose son died from fentanyl poisoning after taking drugs.
Turns out Tracy is a real woman. Her name is Tracy La Porte. But she’s a Gold Star mom, not an Angel mom, and she exclusively told me she’s never met @RonDeSantis, as he falsely claimed.
She told me he also lied about the cause of her son’s death. Her son died on active duty in a car accident, not from fentanyl as DeSantis claimed.
I don't think it was his decision. I think his big backers hate Trump so much that they told Ron he either runs now or never.
Yeah, well, welcome to FR anyway.
Call him Charlie, just so there are no misunderstandings.
Back in 2008, I remember watching McCain and Obama debate. In one of his debate responses, McCain was talking about a Gold Star Mother who had asked him to wear her son's bracelet. McCain gave his name as Cpl. Matthew Stanley. He'd been killed in Iraq. Once McCain was done with his response, Obama quickly piped up: "I got a bracelet too, " and then had to look at the bracelet to remember whose name was on it: Sergeant Ryan David Jopek. I can still remember how I reacted when I watched it on the TV all those years ago. I despised both McCain and Obama, but it was pretty telling how little the bracelet actually meant to Obama since he couldn't even remember the guy's name that was on the bracelet he was wearing.
From the Republican side, yes.
