NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Topless dancers at a North Hollywood bar returned to the stage - this time as the only unionized group of strippers in the U.S.
There was a celebration of unity outside Star Garden Topless Dive Bar Thursday night. The bar reopened after a lengthy shutdown.
The club's strippers walked off the job nearly a year and a half ago. They're returning to work as members of the Actors' Equity Association labor union, becoming the nation's only strippers with union representation.
"I feel completely incredible. It's so surreal to not only be a member of a union as a stripper, but also to be able to work in a club that is unionized," said union member Lilith.
The dancers made the decision to leave the strip club after they became frustrated with management. They say their concerns about issues, including abusive treatment by patrons and safety, were not being addressed.
"What has been so impressive is that the labor movement has embraced us from the get go," said union member Velveeta.
"We just hope that we can inspire other strippers to see what collective power looks like in the workplace because that's really what the union is about," Velveeta said. "The union is about workers coming together and standing together arm in arm."

I’m really not sure what the union has promised these women for a portion of their tips, but will be interesting to see if this club is still around in a few years.
There once was a union maid
She never was afraid…
and yet so many "good" men and especially those good "Christian" men continue to rationalize it.....
Feel the same way about tattoos.
a “seered conscience”...a detachment from one’s consciousness....
Velveeta? More like Usedveeta.
LOL!
ROFLMAO!
“”I feel completely incredible. “
why don’t people realize when they say incredible - it literally means Not credible?
In this quote above she feels Completely not credible?
I understand that men like to see women strip.
But going to a strip club is like being really hungry and going to a wonderful restaurant where waiters show you plates of delicious food but do not permit you to eat.
It seems like a kind of masochism.
Watching women strip and dance makes as much sense as watching other people eat when you are hungry.
I just don't get it.
It is very educational service that they provide. I'll never forget this really gorgeous young lady sitting at one of the tables with our whole office. The young lady borrowed the bouncers flashlight and held the beam under her breast and it glowed. Of course she was showing us that her breasts were not implants but it was extremely enlightening. We had a great time because our Manager (who had been a Marine Drill Instructor) put the tab on his corporate credit card as a team building event.
I'll also never forget the afternoon that my wife told our daughter that I was going to meet the guys from work at The Gold Club that evening. Our daughter's eyes got really big and she said, "you let him do that?" When we both stopped laughing I told her that her mother doesn't have to let me do anything.
Another time four of us were still there at a table in a corner after most of the guys had already gone home, a beautiful blonde sat with us and just talked for a long time. She was from out of town and didn't know anyone there so we were keeping her company.
But what about her colleagues Camembert and Limburger?
Union rules: senior (aged) cheeses have priority. No matter how stinky.
Paying to be sexually aroused in a room with a bunch of other guys. I’ll pass.
Absolutely with you. Instant and complete turnoff. I’m now 62, but have, since they became popular maybe 30 years ago, been repulsed by them. Each to his/her own, I suppose.
Paying dues for who has first dibs on those poles. Jeeze.
Adult Performance Artists Guild (APAG); represents strippers too.
I should have guessed.
