Weekly Garden Thread - August 19-25, 2023 [National Potato Day Edition]
August 19, 2023 | Diana in WI/Greeneyes in Memoriam

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.

This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.

NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

Take it easy, Woman! Rome wasn’t built in a day - but it was probably HOT while they were building it, LOL!

Beau is like that with ‘parts & stuff’ too. He almost always has what’s needed for a project...but for some reason we spend a ridiculous amount of time in the ‘Nuts & Bolts’ and ‘Screws and Nails’ aisles at Farm & Fleet! ;)

I juiced grapes, today. Two gallons of the stuff. Put up 5 quarts (on top of 3 quarts and 6 pints the other day) and now I have enough for us for the winter months and I’m going to juice more in the morning and give that to my neighbor who said she would use it for juice and jelly. I’m so happy she’ll take it - I hate to waste food.

I can’t believe that the birds haven’t been after these grapes, yet. I don’t have them netted or anything.

Another warm day here (84?) and we got some sprinkles this morning, but starting tomorrow temps in the 70’s until next Friday. Yay!

Got gas this morning for mowing tomorrow; $63+ fill up for 5 gallons and half a tank of gas for the VW Golf. Ugh! Doesn’t Brandon know I’m on a Fixed Income?!?!?

Cleaning up the kitchen, then dog chores, then a cocktail is in order for a Day Well Spent. Bacon wrapped pork medallions for supper and taters and green beans from the garden. Life Is Good.

Happy, Happy Hour! (That coconut water sounds goooood!)

Having a generator makes all the difference as we have a well spent over 30 years hauling water to flush toilets. And having separate bottled water.

MwH; Radio News just said that 6 tornados touched down in Western Michigan. Glad you are OK and prayers for all those who do not have power!

I am having problems with my computer. The processor is slowly dying, so I am replacing it. I’ll be off-line for a few days and will post a new thread again when I can.

Use of this computer is sporadic at best. :(

Thanks!

Aw Diana, bummer! Of all the times!

In addition to the cost you'll probably need to go into some leftist enclave like Madistan to buy a new one!

(If you get a new Dell, ask to get it preloaded with Windows and Linux Mint!)
