Turns out it was strep infection from a cat scratch I got 12 hours earlier from our brat cat. ...3 nights in hospital on antibiotic IV...such fun. I go home tomorrow. Am much better.
We still have a nice clump of comfrey planted down at the edge of the barn. We had it for the goats, now we just trim it for the compost. It does grow fast.

We have fewer Japanese beetles this year, Thank God, but I can already see their destruction.
He saw a program about an Australian that went on a potato diet and lost 100+ lbs. Turns out a potato has lots of vitamins, etc. and with a little addition (can’t remember what) it is nutritionally complete.
So, only potatoes...NOTHING ADDED. You can eat as many as your want. Boiled, baked, nuked....later I think some seasoning can be added, salt, pepper other seasoning. But, NO BUTTER, OIL, SOUR CREAM....NOTHING. You soon can taste the difference between red, yukon, etc. potatoes. The weight just falls off and you are full. How many plain potatoes a day do you think you could eat?
A number of online sites, videos can be found about the potato diet.
He had always had a weight problem, as did his dad. After a year (with some small breaks) he lost over 100 lbs. The potato diet takes away one of the major drawbacks to other diets...decisions...you don’t have many...only which kind of potato and boiled, baked or microwaved.
They killed off your microbiome so now you can have fun eating probiotics! Kiefer, fermented Sauerkraut, Kombucha, stuff like that!

My hub brought probiotics to hospital...and other “contraband”...it was an interesting learning experience...
Herself brought Keifer to the room. They let me have it, but then took it to the nurses station and I had to ask for it which meant a 1/2 wait. Drs. did not think much of it
Whoa...glad you are well...I may try some kiefer too.
Its pretty tough stuff. I pulled some of it up and pushed it into the dirt in my guarden 3 days ago and it looks pretty healthy in spite of the heat!
The omega 3 it produces is ALA (not ALA Alpha Lapoic Acid) . Once it gets established I will try to start using it in salads.
Kiefer....Similar to drinking buttermilk. (Search reistant starch. Have some of that too!)
German potato salad....good with kaiser ripchen and beer too! (Oktoberfest!)
Yum.....perfect w/ pork chops and German beer.
I don’t buy that about comfrey. We had it there for the goats just outside the fence so they could nibble if they needed any. I’ve picked young leaves and dried them for tea. It’s been known for a long time to be beneficial for digestion.
I’m too much of an Omnivore to enjoy an all-potato diet. And, yes. Potatoes ARE chock full of vitamins and minerals, but no butter? No sour cream? Nope! :)
They’re predicting 100 degrees today - thank goodness we have a stiff breeze, but the humidity is reallt, rEALLY high, too. Ugh!
So, I bit the bullet this morning and picked grapes. They. Are. Perfection! All bunches are nearly 100% ripe, top to bottom. They are ‘King of the North’ that I got decades ago from my FIL, and transplanted to my ‘old farm’ and now to my ‘new farm’ which is even OLDER than my ‘old farm,’ LOL!
Anyhow, I picked two HUGE baskets, and that was only from about a 2-foot square area! I have 16 FEET to go! Japanese Beetles were no problem this season - we were so dry that they couldn’t get up through the grass (they start as grubs, as do all beetles) and I’m hopping this knocks them back for a few generations to come.
Had about 8 earwigs (Eeew!) to deal with when rinsing the grapes, but they are easily dispatched down the drain. Losers!
So far I have juices over 2 gallons, and I am canning that in pints and quarts as Beau and I LOVE it. I don’t add any sugar, and this batch is as sweet as can be all on it’s own. Just a 100% PERFECT grape-growing season.
My steamer/juicer is this one, though not the same brand. I got it on sale, of course, so keep your eyes peeled for a bargain at the end of the season:
I wasn’t all that jazzed to tackle this, but that steamer/juicer makes quick work of it all. I plan on making apple juice this season, too - I’ll have a RIDICULOUS amount of apples come October.
