‘Not splitting’: Wild fight erupts over $7k birthday dinner bill
News.com.au ^ | 07/20/2023 | Jasmine Kazlauskas

A viral video showing a group of friends fighting over an expensive birthday dinner bill has sparked a heated debate about splitting the cheque.

A U.S. content creator from Atlanta, Georgia, posted a clip of his friend’s birthday dinner descending into chaos after the group received a $4,600 bill at the end of the night.

The video poster named Viccgotti can be seen animatedly arguing that he should not have to split the enormous bill for his friend’s meal, instead arguing he should only pay for what he ate.

But the woman who is celebrating her birthday suggests she expects her friends to also cover her meal.

It’s my f***ing birthday, why the f*** should I have to pay for something on my birthday?’ she demands to know.

“But if we come together, we split the bill, period,” another girl yells defensively.

However, another disagreed and taking to his feet said: “You got lamb chop, you got steak, look at all they got and they talk about splitting the bill.”

“Ya’ll ordering way too much and then want to split the bill.”

(snip)

“We ended up calling the waiter over and I told him ‘don’t split nothing for me, they can split if they want to but we’re not here for that’”.

I don’t know why the article doesn’t name the place. In an online article I found it Boogalou Lounge & Grill. Their menu is below. The most expensive entree is $22. Daily drink menu is not posted but they have, for example, Long Island Ice Tea for $5. With food price points like they have they’re not charging $25 phoofie drinks and they don’t have $300
Bottles of wine. You can’t tell the size of the group from the video but it doesn’t look like more than 12 or so.
SO HOW THE HELL DID THEY RUN UP A BILL SO BIG?!?!?!??!?

When the company would let us have a Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner at a nice restaurant, I always tried to be mindful of the expense.

Speaking of tips..

I order my food from Walmart using Walmart+, which also covers the "delivery fee".
There is an automatic 10% "tip" fee for the driver that you can change (all the way down to $0), but there isn't supposed to be any extra fee, since it is already covered (supposedly) by my monthly charge for Walmart+.

I did some research about this (and MANY people are complaining about the same thing), and saw the the deliverers are outsourced, and not Walmart employees.
Their pay from whatever company is terrible...

While I am ticked off about this, I also do feel sympathy for the drivers, so I do leave the 10% tip (plus the fact that the drivers themselves can see your tipping history, and it is the driver's discretion to take any order they want to deliver.. so it is possible that no one will deliver an order if they know you don't tip, or tip below 10%).

Walmart should be held accountable for them trying to skirt the costs and force it on the customers.

(Sorry, a little off topic 😖)

Good story. But yeah, that is one thing I still consider: Do I plan to eat there again? If not, I’m much more likely not to tip...but if so, I still give the 15%. So I’m not quite to where the “Canadians” (as we called them years ago in the hospitality business) are, but I’m getting closer.

And, having traveled to many countries, the idea of a tip exceeding 10% is nuts, and in many cases, particularly Asia, any tip is frowned upon.

My point is they vote for us to pay for their freebies but they don’t like it when they have to pay for others.

It was converted to Aussie $ ($6800au) since it was from an Aussie source.

Exactly. Tips are for the quality of service you get, not to add hidden charges, as it appears to be recently. Now, it seems 90% of business expect tips, even if they shouldn't (fast food restaurants, etc..). [I know, preaching to the choir 😉]

About Asia (Japan, in my case), there is no such thing as a tip (it is almost like an insult to them, for some reason).. BUT, their hospitality and professionalism cannot be matched. (And all of the cuties serving you 😁)

This year I hosted our company party at Texas de Brazil, your typical all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse.

Eleven employees/spouses plus me. Everyone knew that there was a two drink maximum, but since many did not drink I allowed everyone to get a dessert, even if they had to take it home to enjoy it.

Well, since I buy the TdB VIP card, all dinners are half price. So allowing extra items ensures that the restaurant can sell something profitable and that they will continue with the promotion. That, and a really good tip, and now I get recognized at the door and treated well whenever I dine in.

And I have grateful employees that are learning limits. I expect that a 60 y.o. will understand that I am paying for it, that it is not free, so take it easy.

Teaching (what used to be the rules of civilization) business manners and consideration to todays’ young employees ... well, that takes patience.

And no one minded that I used a “coupon” to lower the cost of the meal. All in all, it was very reasonable expense for a very good dinner and a Thank You to my employees.

And it was nowhere near $4,600!

Probably nothing...

The waitresses at our local Cracker Barrel hated Wednesday nights as that night the black ‘Christians’ would descend in droves after church and would keep the staff running but they never tipped...

Why is it that younger women often only want to split a bill, if it comes out in their favor?

Don't tell me that barbies can't do math in their heads!

And we wonder why many young men are MGTOW.

maybe they do this on purpose?....maybe they like making tik tok or you tube....

because otherwise, what a sad commentary on them and that culture....we are not the same although I know we got a growing white trash population that will catch up pretty soon.

...From everything I have heard black people are notorious bad tippers.

When my daughter was a waitress while in college she worked at a national chain sports bar/grill. The black waitresses all avoided the black customers and they openly said that black people do not tip well, if at all.

I remember my daughter saying one large group of blacks rang up an over $400 bill and left the coins from their change. The poor waitress got about three dollars for the effort.

Not only did the servers not get tipped. The restaurant probably got stiffed. But that is what they get. They should screen their customers more carefully.

That place rocks. I sometimes take advantage of the Veterans Day for half off dinner and bring a date. We still spend well over $100 including a nice tip. I think this may be the year I bring my next door neighbor who is a Marine. I’ve been promising this for a while I think he’ll appreciate it.
