This year I hosted our company party at Texas de Brazil, your typical all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse.

Eleven employees/spouses plus me. Everyone knew that there was a two drink maximum, but since many did not drink I allowed everyone to get a dessert, even if they had to take it home to enjoy it.

Well, since I buy the TdB VIP card, all dinners are half price. So allowing extra items ensures that the restaurant can sell something profitable and that they will continue with the promotion. That, and a really good tip, and now I get recognized at the door and treated well whenever I dine in.

And I have grateful employees that are learning limits. I expect that a 60 y.o. will understand that I am paying for it, that it is not free, so take it easy.

Teaching (what used to be the rules of civilization) business manners and consideration to todays’ young employees ... well, that takes patience.

And no one minded that I used a “coupon” to lower the cost of the meal. All in all, it was very reasonable expense for a very good dinner and a Thank You to my employees.

And it was nowhere near $4,600!

That place rocks. I sometimes take advantage of the Veterans Day for half off dinner and bring a date. We still spend well over $100 including a nice tip. I think this may be the year I bring my next door neighbor who is a Marine. I’ve been promising this for a while I think he’ll appreciate it.

Tax season in my CPA firm were long hours and demanding. I was so grateful for the employees and their dedication that immediately after tax season was over, I hosted all employees and their spouses to a gathering in a fine restaurant.

It was my way of thanking the spouses for allowing them to be away from home all that time. I always joked that I was returning them to their families until next year.
