Republican presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy canceled a campaign stop in Michigan Monday due to depressurization in his private jet.
The entrepreneur’s plane made an emergency landing due to “an unexpected cabin depressurization issue,” his campaign said. No injuries were reported, according to NBC.
A statement for his campaign quoted Ramaswamy as saying he would appear at the event by Zoom rather than in person.
“I am glad that we can use technology to still engage with one another,” Ramaswamy said in the statement.
The virtual event, when it took place, had an audience of about 60, NBC reported.
As noted by the Daily Caller, depressurization means that the plane’s cabin lost the amount of oxygen required for humans to remain conscious while airborne.
Depressurization can lead to hypoxia, which is a deprivation of oxygen impacting the brain, Randy Padfield, former chief operating officer of Aviation International News, told ABC in a 2014 report.

Or Wellstone....................
Yes. Lungs are more efficient at absorbing oxygen where the pressure is higher (eg ground). To absorb the same amount of oxygen at altiude (lower pressure) you will need to breathe oxygen rich air. It's why mountaineers carry O2.
Commercial airplanes do NOT provide air with oxygen levels higher than normal inside the cabin. Cabin pressure at cruising altitude is the equivalent of 8000 ft above sea level which is just fine if you are sitting idly.
Altitude, pressure diff. That explains it. Divers use different mixures for various depths, as I understand it, as well.
The way things are written these days you can't help but wonder. So many examples of just bad composition.
Thanks. Got a similar response from someone else.
Lol!
Sigh, as if we don’t have enough examples that journalism majors and science are not exactly acquainted.
The plane lost pressurization. The percentage of O2 was the same in the plane as there was at sea level.
At the level of your typical media blurb, the difference is honestly not that much, but...it does cast dispersion on one’s belief in the media’s comprehension of other science topics.
Science is not a requirement in journalism schools................nor math................nor history.............nor economics.............
The jet seems not identified anywhere, but it is rare that any media story identifies a private jet (unless it’s Trump). Rama has had trouble with apparently this same jet several times recently.
Trump’s plane, by contrast, is constantly identified.
Yes
I went to a prestigious journalism school decades ago. My faculty advisor was very insistent on math, science and history courses.
I ended up with a career in engineering and statistics. J-school types were mostly just ignorant narcissists, dumber than political science majors. But not all j-school professors were that bad, way back when. I can’t even imagine the university sewers now.
Education Majors are even worse................
Yeah, but even if you don’t catch it, you’ll eventually regain consciousness at some point as the plane spins uncontrollably towards the ground.
Ron Brown.
…nor ethics.
