Three Dog Night was huge during the late 1960s and early 1970s, but underappreciated today. Too many younger listeners have never heard of the group and many older listeners have forgotten about them. Classic hits radio plays precious few of their many hits and they seldom show up on Spotify playlists. They simply don’t have the continuing legacy of other big groups of that era.
The reality is that there were few groups bigger than Three Dog Night in their prime and the group deserves more recognition today. What happened to that talented group of hitmakers—and why have they faded from our collective memory? It’s an interesting story

Cadillac is in my play list... Love the bongos...
A while back I wonder what happened to three dog night and then I found out.
There’s a book out called Three Dog Nightmare that details the lifestyle choices leading to the overall demise of each individual.
They got caught up in the ugly business of the entertainment industry. Sex, drugs, and rock & roll put them on that path towards destruction and shut them down.
Randy Newman wrote Mama Told Me Not To Come and Paul Williams wrote Out In The Country. Both great songs.
Remember them well.
They were over-played until people for sick of them.
Out In The Country was very good.
I remember when Quadraphonic 8-Tracks were a thing.
First concert I ever saw. They were very good.

*Yea well ,I thought John Lennon was crap*
Tormented genius. Raised by his aunt. He claimed he wasn’t being communist in the song “Imagine”. What else could it be? “Imagine all the people sharing all the world?”
Thet got the feel-good over us-ask BJ and the Kenyan. They need to be ridiculed.
Likewise, Grand Funk Railroad was huge as well, and are mostly forgotten.
Here’s a 2002 Concert with the Nashville Symphony, Danny Hutton and Cory Wells with most of the original band. Chuck Negron is gone of course but they have a new bass player who sort of take his place. Some really great versions of tons of hits are right here. Danny and Cory can still sing lights out. R.I.P. Cory!

They just need better publicity. If only they could like, get on the cover of The Rolling Stone. Then they would be appreciated.
Yeah, well, they could’ve jump-started that bus within the first five yards.
Had that bus with a bad battery, and I’d just push it along a straight all by myself, jump in and pop the clutch in 2nd...vroom, good to go.
So, with respect, I disagree about the greatest 5:01 in TV history...🤷♀️
I think you are on to something, there. While 3 Dog Night were obviously very talented, and popular for a good while, they never created a volume of their own compositions that were really unique, broke new ground, etc.
But, then again, the same can be said for quite a few artists who are better remembered.
Maybe another factor is that 3 Dog Night were not, you know, particularly controversial, obnoxious, etc.
