Three Dog Night was huge during the late 1960s and early 1970s, but underappreciated today. Too many younger listeners have never heard of the group and many older listeners have forgotten about them. Classic hits radio plays precious few of their many hits and they seldom show up on Spotify playlists. They simply don’t have the continuing legacy of other big groups of that era.
The reality is that there were few groups bigger than Three Dog Night in their prime and the group deserves more recognition today. What happened to that talented group of hitmakers—and why have they faded from our collective memory? It’s an interesting story

Hoyt also wrote Never Been to Spain. They had to change the lyrics though. They went from “in Oklahoma or a coma” to “in Oklahoma or Arizona, what does it matter “.
Name one of their hits that they wrote.
Name one Frank Sinatra wrote.
You sent me down a bunnyhole for 3 hours.
Great time-warp.
Thanks for posting.

Classic studio-funded, earworm kind of band.

“1970-Mama Told Me Not To Come
1975-Try A Little Tenderness”
My favorites of their pieces.
Chuck didn't fit the rhythm of the song
Their music was fun! I was a kid, 12 or so when Joy to the World came out, and I loved their songs. Those were the days when WABC NY (later went to WCBS) played all the hits of the day.
So did I.
Catchy toonage but way overplayed and treachle-y.
Not by me.
I liked them.
A fun favorite song.
They had scope.
Because Robert wasn’t a bullfrog.
