For those unfamiliar with the TPP, it amounts to global commoditization of the workforce. US companies, if it is ratified, will be able to import unlimited number of workers and not have to hire American workers. As long as companies will provide a place, they only have to pay the wage of where those people are from.

Obama's TPP was another massive multi-thousand page giveaway to special interests. If they want to draft a new, one-page TPP - "you don't tax us, we don't tax you" - that's a different story. Such an agreement could be a useful counterweight to lessen our dependence on China.

But if Ramaswamy is specifically calling for a return of Obama's version, he is making an error.

If it were ONLY about trade, I would be with Vivek. But it is not. It also has provisions, as I recall, regarding immigration, environMENTALism and globalism. And also, no doubt, it would prohibit a low general tariff to fund US ports inspections.

So no thanks. Strip it down to a basic trade agreement that allows member “states” some independence on tariffs, and I will reconsider.
