I have been swimming since before I can remember, was on the swim team starting age 6 through college, and now in my 50s still swim 3-4 times a week. My short workout is about 37 minutes and I do about 44 laps (1,100 meters) in that amount of time, with about 5 minutes of rest since that is my HIIT (short sprints with 1minute rest between) workout. So that’s for comparison, and I am SLOW. In my 30s, I was doing that same workout in about 28 minutes.
The other thing I noticed is that he never breathes to the side, but rather flips onto his back to breathe. JUST THIS PAST SUNDAY, I observed this in a little kid about 5 years old! At my pool, they require kids to prove they can swim unassisted a full 25 meters to earn a wristband that means a parent doesn’t have to be with them in the water. I let them use my lane to do the test and watched the little guy do a combination dog paddle, freestyle and backstroke so that he never had to put his face in the water and thought to myself “They need to get little man some lessons to teach him strokes and breathing.” He made it the full length, but barely, and got real tired at the end.
My point being, the chef looks new to swimming, does not know how to breathe to the side, and is also using fins in the pool, which, while a great training tool for heart rate (I use short fins for sprints to get my heart rate up the 80 max) and easing strain on the rotator cuffs in the water, they can create false balance in the water (swimming is ALL about balance), so I would not recommend them for beginners until they are ready to do certain training techniques.
And I agree with Linda…once you find yourself in a lake, pond, river or ocean, everything changes. I know that my swim skills drop by about 50 percent when I’m in dark water because I’m rarely in it.

He had on fins too. Usually when one paddleboards they have a leash. I’ve seen people panic in the water (lifeguard for many years) and they are always reaching for purchase. It’s fishy.
They got that dog as a puppy! Methinks it’s been trained to protect someone’s stash.

I commented on this before I knew who it was. I live 51 miles North of there and driving in Chattanooga can seem like a near death experience. It says a lot when you can navigate through Atlanta and wreck in Chattanooga.
Regarding the I-75 accident, that’s a 20-50 minute drive for me, depending on traffic. Chattanooga is decidedly void of anywhere near enough paths across the Tennessee river. I’m fortunate to live on the northwest side of the river, but unfortunately, I have to cross it to get to work every day.
They keep building houses, but they don’t build roads to accommodate the additional traffic. Turning ‘Nooga into a mini-Atlanta.
One of my husband’s doctors is down there at Memorial Hospital. I watch the GPS about the split and if there is a wreck, I get off and go down Brainerd Rd. through the tunnels.
I lived down there with my grandparents for a while and can navigate it pretty well, but I think they have been doing construction for the last 30 years, at least.
I’m 51 miles from Chattanooga and 66 miles from Knoxville. I can get through Knoxville faster than I can Chattanooga.
Cleveland is getting bad too. There are more people moving to Cleveland for the jobs than roads to handle the traffic. I’m glad I retired and don’t have to drive to Cleveland and back daily.
My son-in-law works in Ooltewah at Miller Industries but at least he doesn’t have to go all the way into Chattanooga.
I also didn’t realize that it was Desanctus that crashed.
Let’s see, I-75 southbound at mileage marker 2.8. Marker 0 is the Tennessee-Georgia line. That would put him near the E. Brainerd Road exit, which is between where 153 ties in to 75 and where I-24 splits to the west.
I wonder if his motorcade wasn’t heading from the airport south on 153 to 75, then to I-24 West towards downtown Chattanooga. Would make sense that his event might be there.
At any rate, Chattanooga is fast becoming a traffic nightmare. And the government, city and county, LOVE their developers, but don’t want to expand the infrastructure to accommodate all the developing.
