Things to see/do -to avoid??
“You obviously do NOT live in Florida!”
Oh but yes I do!......that’s the point. 😉
That’s them!
Where?
We boat to Casey Key Fish House. Great Grouper sandwich.
For beaches, I really like Ft Desoto. It's on the N. end of the Skyway. Miles of beach and some cool history there.
If you are adventurous, drive inland to Arcadia. Go to "Canoe Outpost" and do on of their river trips on the Peace River. They will shuttle you up-river and you paddle back to the outpost. I say paddle back but that's a stretch. You more like keep your canoe (or kayak) pointed down stream and the current does the rest. Yes, you will see Alligators. They'll be lazing on the bank and are no threat (unless you wanna shake its hand or something dumb). Ask at the desk how to find find fossilized sharks teeth. There are millions of them in that river.
Also, inland but much closer is Mayakka State Park. Take the boat tour. You'll see massive gators there. Also walk the trails. Beautiful Live Oak canopy.
Take 2 days (or one very long day) and drive to my neighborhood, the Keys. Driving the FL Keys Overseas Highway is something everyone should do once in their lifetime. It is awe inspiring. I've actually walked the entire length, 109 miles. On the drive there you'll cross Alligator Alley. Not much to see but marsh-land and sawgrass - but you can say you've done it.
“Going to Sarasota, FL”
Why?
Don’t like swimming in the gulf, it’s a big dirty puddle. I prefer the Atlantic, but actually really don’t like open water after running afoul of a really nasty rip current two years ago.
Prefer the big Olympic pool I train in.
Sorry for any confusion.
Good explanation—and was just curious.
More “Florida” stuff:
Skyways Fishing Pier - old memory re the old Skyway Bridge I usta drive.
“Skyway Fishing Pier State Park is a Florida State Park located on the north and south sides of the mouth of Tampa Bay. When the original cantilevered Sunshine Skyway Bridge, carrying I-275 (US 19), partially collapsed in 1980, due to the collision of a freighter on one of its pilings, it was replaced by the current bridges. The approaches to the old bridge, however, were left in place and converted into the longest fishing pier in the world.]

‘The southbound span (opened in 1971) of the original bridge was destroyed at 7:38 am on May 9, 1980, when the 606 ft (185 m) freighter MV Summit Venture collided with a support column during a sudden squall, causing the catastrophic failure of over 1,200 ft (370 m) of the span. Six cars, a truck, and a Greyhound bus plummeted 150 ft (46 m) into Tampa Bay, resulting in 35 deaths.[31]

LOL!
Whenever I complain about the dangers of Florida, someone from Florida tells me I’m right about everything, and I should definitely stay away from Florida.
Sharks, Shark week is coming and the different sharks gather in places like that to take selfies with tourists like you.
Be careful
