King Charles III had trouble keeping Joe Biden “on track” during the US President’s recent visit to the United Kingdom, says Sky News host Chris Kenny.

Biden said to Sunak, “Shouldn’t you be at a 7-11?”
🤣
Charles appears to me to be many things, but a blithering fool is not one of them. He has more patience for Biden that I do.
“ I am no fan of royalty. But Elizabeth II has my admiration. She served in WW 2”
As did millions.
“and she gracefully represented Britain, a Britain that was once a great nation.”
She oversaw the descent to what is is.
She turned over Hong Kong to despotic communists.
But even if she had done things right, the idea of a King or Queen is offensive and wrong.
I'm 79...and have no clue as to what I did yesterday. lol
> She turned over Hong Kong to despotic communists. <
UK politicians did that, and much worse. The sovereign part of the problem. But I wonder how much Elizabeth II could have done to prevent these outrages. Not much, I suppose.
I read somewhere that the last time the English sovereign truly interfered in politics was around the year 1700. There is probably a good reason why it hasn’t happened since.
> the idea of a King or Queen is offensive and wrong <
At one time I would have 100% agreed with you. Then someone here on Free Republic said that the UK sovereign is a final check on politicians. And any check on politicians is a good thing.
So now I only 95% agree with you. 🙂
The world laughs at us.
The world laughs at us.
> I can remember it like it was yesterday. I’m 79...and have no clue as to what I did yesterday. <
Ha, yes. I can remember every bit of dialog from the old “Leave it to Beaver” TV show. That Eddie Haskell, he sure was a rascal!
But where I just put my car keys, I haven’t a clue.
Maybe you are not a Christian.
So is the idea that those in elected office in the US system are deserving of any respect over and above the average citizen. They are not.
“ So is the idea that those in elected office in the US system are deserving of any respect over and above the average citizen. They are not.”
That’s right, did someone claim otherwise?
I am a Christian.
Your response is non-sequitur and makes no sense.
I hope you are a brother in Christ as well.
I don’t think she could have done anything and agree the politicians did it, sadly starting with Thatcher.
My point is if she’s “Queen” she is by definition responsible for everything.
She appoints the PM.
It’s convention now the monarch does not exercise their power but all power does belong to the monarch even today.
If the monarchy falls the UK will fly apart!
Independence movements will certainly succeed in Scotland, Shetlands, possibly Wales and maybe even Cornwall.
Scotland and Wales and the others will be EU money sinks. England could stand one but its influence in the world and Europe will be nil. That’s not good for the stability of Europe or the world.
The UK had a 99 year lease on Hong Kong. There was no option other than leave after the 99 years was up.
“The UK had a 99 year lease on Hong Kong. There was no option other than leave after the 99 years was up.”
False.
It’s a common misperception but not true.
Only the lease on New Territories was up, not Hong Kong, not Kowloon which were both ceded in perpetuity.
The communists did not hold the lease on New Territories and the turnover of all of Hong Kong was not based upon the end of the lease of New Territories.
> It’s convention now the monarch does not exercise their power but all power does belong to the monarch even today. <
Yes, true that. I suppose it’s a one-shot kind of thing. By that I mean the UK monarch could strongly and publicly object to something. But failure might well mean the end of the monarchy.
Is it worth the risk? When it comes to the illegal immigration into the UK (and all the associated crimes), hell yes it’s worth the risk! But Elizabeth was hesitant to act. And I’m sure Charles will be, too.
So the question is this. Which descendant of Elizabeth will be the first one to be executed when Sariah Law finally takes hold in the UK?
