The Navy says that when they heard the "sound" they couldn't be sure what it was...BUT THEY HEARD something!!!
Many will now be asking why nothing then was investigated!

The SOSUS network and its successor(s) are not exactly secrets.

Exact specs and design are, however, until sold by politicians and former politicians ...

The Navy heard it. Diaper britches was told and it was perfect timing to take attention away from his juvenile delinquent and world renowned bonehead son.

Gotta love how the media uses the word “secret” because as soon as they say it, it’s not a secret not to mention there’s lots of info on SOSUS which has been around for 60+ years.

"The Admiral was asked about prospects for the recovery of bodies...

One would like to know which one of the geniuses in the press gallery axed that question. Surely someone was playing "straight man" so that the Admiral could officially say, "Sorry, these guys got squished down to atoms in a matter of microseconds, frankly."

Someone please tell me that was the case.

Also The Hunt For Red October (book) was published in 1984 and featured SOSUS and what the book and movie called “SAPS” - the SONAR signal processing systems.

A lot of folks were REALLY surprised by that, given the first edition of the book was printed by the Naval Institute Press. (I have a copy)

The navy ocean surveillance systems are designed to detect, identify, and track submarines. They do this by integration over time of the acoustics to see beats and harmonics (like a 30 Hz propeller screw). Onetime events, like whale farts or hull implosions require an analyst to know roughly when the event occurred and be looking for it, since there is no further integration of that one time event by definition.

The autonomous detection by these systems has a library of known threats and the frequency signatures of those threats. While this mini sub had electric propellers before its demise, electrics are especially hard to hear, and they were not likely in the signals of interest the navy systems would be looking for.

So, after the fact, someone could come to the navy and say ‘could you look for something peculiar at this time’. But only by going back through the recordings could you possibly find something.

‘Journalists’ are stupid people generally as a whole.
Journalism schools do not require math or science beyond basic levels.

That’s why they are ‘journalists’...........

“Many will now be asking why nothing then was investigated!”

Because it was pointless and confirming it for certain might reveal the extent of our analytical capabilities?

If sound was implosion, then they were all dead.

If not, they already knew a pretty specific area where they were.

Leave it to others to confirm.

A little off topic, but I predict the investigation will reveal the use of carbon fiber was a fatal flaw.

We heard repeatedly the search area was twice the size the state of Connecticut. Why was that? Why didn't they initiate their search near the Titanic? Wouldn't that make sense?

Perhaps the people who control the news cycle wanted to stretch this story out for days longer than necessary.

And that info was purposely withheld for days as media and government purposely lied to us...again.

Yes, and that is just ONE FATAL FLAW.

The Front Titanium Dome with window (OK, porthole) was GLUED onto the Carbon Fiber ‘tube’. The tube itself was 5 inches thick.

Glue a metal dome to a carbon fiber hull? That right there was a disaster waiting to happen.

You have three things with different coefficients of expansion and tensile strengths, Titanium, Carbon Fiber and whatever adhesive they used (SUPERGLUE?).

Had there been a metal sleeve inside the tube might have made a difference, or just prolonged or delayed the inevitable..............
