The Jamaican owner of the Rustic Mountain Living rental company shocked social media by saying she wouldn’t allow any more short-term stays. The reason? She’s fed up with the alleged misbehavior of Black American guests.
In a TikTok video, “The Barefoot Mountain Lady,” said she doesn’t believe all Black Americans are ill-mannered, but most of the ones she hosted were entitled, unappreciative and generally disrespectful in her presence.
She said she only ever had two mannerly Black American guests.
The most eyebrow-raising statement was toward the end. The owner claimed Black Americans are spoiled and expect the same “free sh*t” in Jamaica they supposedly get at home.
In the video, the woman does errands on her grounds, wades in the sea, and seems completely unbothered. People Had Heated Opinions
Unsurprisingly, the woman’s announcement sparked a firestorm of criticism.
People accused her of perpetuating dangerous, offensive stereotypes about Black Americans.
Others questioned the wisdom of making such a declaration on a public platform seemingly without a second thought. They also wondered how she can work in the hospitality industry and be so inhospitable.
On Twitter, one user said the owner was parroting white supremacist talking points about Black Americans. But to them, it was more comical than offensive.
Some asked for clarification on the freebies point. “I’d like to receive my free things, please!” wrote one woman. “Is there a newsletter?”
After one potential guest criticized the negative energy, The Barefoot Mountain Lady said, “You don’t have to come here.”

That is ironic and a bit strange.
Although one might be tempted to think that anyone with the financial wherewithal to vacation in Jamaica would be a little classier than someone who needed the assistance of the Peace Corps.
The woman’s announcement sparked a firestorm of criticism?
Truth sounds like hate to those who hate truth.
Had an old Jamaican client in the horse business, blacker than black. ALWAYS said, to EVERYONE, “I aint no n…., i’m Jamaican”. He would pull a knife if you made a face at him.
bttt
There is a reason stereotypes exist, though I will admit they are unfair to those within the stereotyped group who do not fit the stereotype. The problem is no one has time to evaluate every person in a stereotyped group on an individual basis so we have to play the odds.
We went on a mission trip to Jamaica a few years ago. They all called us “whiteys.” We didn’t care.
“She frequently observed how polite, ambitious, and hard-working the African kids were.”
And, of course, everyone who complained about this black lady’s video is an entitled black murican with hand out looking for the latest freebies.

I have noticed the same thing. I had a Primary Care physician who was from Kenya. He was very polite and was the best physician that I ever had. The people who come here from Africa are very hard working and very grateful to be here.
Wow, people in Jamaica have eyes and ears too!
I went to Jamaica twice when I was younger. There was a mix of people living on the island. Most of them were struggling to make a living usually off of tourism. I never met a hostile Jamaican in my time there. I was a little hesitant to get off the bus on my first visit when we stopped at a jerk chicken stand in the country and there were black men with machetes. That wasn’t a normal thing where I came from. It took me a few days to get use to that and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Lol... You people crack me up!! Gotta include the “some White people to Claus”!!
Can’t voice a firm condemnation...
That’s gotta sting a little.
In my time in NYC, I was mugged twice, both times by groups of black teens coming up from behind in a swarm attack.
My impression is that white people are a preferred target.
Same here.
Read Dr. Sowell’s book, Black Rednecks & White Liberals. Your views on black/white relationships will change.
Yes, some in Jamaica are struggling dealing with tourists. There are some who are highly educated, frequently in England.

Been twice myself. Both times a few days after I left I came down with a really bad chest cold. Never did get used to the driving on the wrong side of the road. Lots of poor people. Don’t hate the place but is my least favorite Caribbean island, followed by US Virgin Islands and then Puerto Rico. Love Aruba and Curacao.
Aruba is the only place in the Caribbean I’m willing to go to.
In the 60’s I went on a Boy Scout Jamboree in Jamaica. We had several black Scouts in our troop. The locals would often ask them if they were ok in the midst of all those white boys.
The Jamaican Scouts wanted to see our “woods”. They wanted to know if our private parts were white like the rest of us.
Overall, they were good people. They didn’t camp in tents like we did. They built very nice buildings out of bamboo. They even made chairs for the porches.
