Owners of new Ford vehicles will continue having access to AM radio, reversing a previous decision by the company, CEO Jim Farley announced Tuesday.

Well the hardware is an antenna, they’re kinda universal. It’s just how you use it. But AM gets interference from EVs, and is just a dying medium. But not as dead as Ford thought.

No, the hardware is already in the receiver unit and you can probably use Forscan on the OBD connection to activate AM instead of going to the dealer. I've been able to make all sorts of mods on the various computer modules in my F-150 through Forscan, including the "Infotainment" system.

As far as interference from EVs, a friend has a Nissan Leaf and he clearly gets Toronto's Zoomer Radio 450 miles away every night on that car's AM radio. If the lowest fundamental frequency within the inverter switching circuits are above the AM band and enough filtering is done to prevent square waves, then the AM radio has nothing to pick up from the car's electronics.

They’ll end up selling it as a service, for $2 a month you can have AM radio.
