Summer is just around the corner, which means New Yorkers are baring arms — and legs, shoulders and abs.
But many young women are also packing a defense for deterring creepy dudes: the subway shirt.
Alternatively known as a modesty shirt or outfit dampener, it’s a baggy, longer layer that can be thrown over more fitted or revealing clothes to avoid harassment underground.
“As we come out of winter, people act like they’ve never seen a woman before,” Grace Masingale told The Post.
The 22-year-old social media manager from the Upper East Side has had her fair share of harassment by men on the train, who have said everything from “I would like to see what’s underneath that” to “Your breasts are so perky.” Once, she was even followed out of the 23rd Street station on the 1 line.
So now she dons a light sweater over her clothes when she leaves the house, in the hopes of drawing less attention to herself, and takes it off at her destination

I am not defending guys who molest women.
However you dress with your T!t$ and @$$ hanging out you are deciding to dress for attention and you don’t get to pick and choose whose going to give it to you.
Not really. They are wearing very revealing clothing underneath the subway shirt when they get to their destinations.
Are any of them looking for Bernard Geatz?
Loose, baggy clothing can be the difference between carrying a small pocket pistol and a full sized service sidearm.
A friend used to hold her knees and rock back and forth to increase her ‘personal space’ on NYC trains.
On the other hand, the "outfits" I see on some women scream "NOTICE ME! NOTICE ME!" And when they get noticed (by any other than a handsome, rich man) it's, "YOU SICK PERV! THAT'S HARRASSMENT!"
So to speak.
I know. I was being sarc
OBiden’s Amerika.
Gotta love that fundamental transformation. Ain’t it great?
Call it the Brooklyn Burka.
“Gee...”modesty shirt”...now why would they need those?”
A corollary of the article is that many women like to be sex objects.
That’s great and I post this observation to refute complaints from women that think being considered a sex object is always demeaning.
I think I understand. Cleavage is not illegal in this (sorta) free country. Shaming women into compliance by using leers, catcalls and groping to enforce a modesty dress code is not how I want to live. And going to the extreme of calling woman whores who show more skin than you prefer to see is also not what I expect from a grown man. This lady is not even getting that mad, she is wearing a modesty shirt on the train - so she is actually complying with the sharia, uh I mean ‘decency standards’ set forth. And for this she is further demeaned and shamed. You may not have been thinking Muslims but you were thinking LIKE some of them (mostly the ones form places where the US and the UK overthrew their governments for money and power and they reacted with a fundamentalist regression). Have a nice day.
but just think... under all those clothes, they’re naked...
Oh, please ...I am female...
Oh, sorry about that. Jealousy is a tough thing to overcome, good luck!
Hahahaha...if you only knew the truth
Trashy outfit, IMO. But I am a woman, so I can’t appreciate her advertising of her assets.
Put some clothes on women! Let men exercise their imagination!
