I’ve been watching the Trump vs. DeSantis showdown here and have a few questions. I voted for Trump twice, worked the phones and poll watched for him and am convinced he was the only one for regular Americans. He had the right policies for us. I have two concerns. He is supposedly a germaphobe and I think that influenced his decisions regarding Covid. He also didn’t have a team behind him. Many stabbed him in the back. How would it be different if he was elected for another term?
Regarding Desantis, I watched some of his Iowa stuff and he seems to say the right things. He may even be to the right of Trump on some issues. He also seems to have a good argument about what he’s done in Florida. He doesn’t have Trump’s suburban housewife baggage (who my wife of 31 yrs asked how many times Trump’s been married - she voted for him and we’re not voting for a Pope) but I’m sure they’ll come up with something to hang on him. I know that many have said that he’s beholden to big donors.
I’m on team fight it out for the nomination, After that, I’m on team how do you fix the rig and how do you win I haven’t heard any of that from anyone.
If we had free and fair elections, it would be an interesting horse race; unfortunately we don’t. It doesn’t matter who runs for the Reps, the current idiot (and his Inner Cabinet) will win.
We will harvest ballots and do everything they’ve done. We will become poll watchers. Will will create ballots. We will kick the Dems out, tape paper over the windows and count votes. We will steal it back. Or, it’s a hot war. Steal it back according to their rules and example... or use force and go to a hot war.
DeSantis is a lawyer. He is incapable of being a good President. Of all people, why do you trust a lawyer? Open the phone book, pick a random person, he will be better.
Oh, so that’s a valid reason to oppose DeSantis?
That he would hire the same “assorted morons” who screwed up Trump’s presidency?
Sheeesh. You Trump only fans are really short sighted.
And DeSantis and his supporters don't believe that.
That's not a good thing.
The bigger question in 2024 — as it was in 2016 — would be this: Who would even want to work in a Trump administration?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``
I think Rudy Giulliani has sobered up. He might still be interested.
That’s just plain silly.
2. My point about those senior appointees is that the President doesn’t pick them. They are subject to Senate confirmation, so you’re going to see the same career bureaucrat losers in those roles no matter which Republican wins.
Interestingly, one thing I can absolutely envision Trump doing as President that DeSantis wouldn’t do in a thousand years is leave senior executive branch posts vacant if he can’t get his people confined.
You nailed it.
The Trump only crowd hates DeSantis now. He’s Jeb II. A GOP stooge. Etc.
But in 2028? Oh how they love him then.
Use their own rules against them. Alinsky-style conservatism.
Which candidate overtly praises Charlie Crist?
But then again, I loved Trump’s performance on CNN, so I’m torn.
Here’s some advice how to get “untorn”.
Two things I’ve been telling people for months in regard to the coming election: (1) pay close attention to who it is your enemies are most viciously attacking and VOTE for that person; (2) regardless of what criticisms you may have of your preferred candidate NEVER voice those criticisms BEFORE the election. Anyone who cannot follow those two simple guidelines, whether knowingly or not, is aiding and abetting their enemy.
RD, by the way, according to those who are closely watching and listening to him, is making it increasingly clear that he is very much an establishment Republican in the image of the McCain, Romney, and Bush branch of the GOP. NOT GOOD!
Where have you been? The GOP Establishment is lining up to support him — and pushing him to run even if he doesn’t think it’s a good idea.
Get real. Ron DeSantis is an Ivy League lawyer who has never worked outside government. Someone like that has groomed himself to do whatever he’s told, and hasn’t had an independent thought in his head since high school.
You’re delusional. The Democrats don’t fear DeSantis one bit because they see their GOPe buddies being heavily involved in his soon to be presidential campaign and know he’s controlled opposition.
Adlai was a mesmerizing speaker, yet when his speeches were published in a book, the people who read it shook their heads and said:"THESE SPEECHES ARE GARBAGE; WHY WERE WE IMPRESSED BY THEM?"!
Stevenson lost to Ike TWICE, though a popular governor!
There have been only TWO father and son duos who were president.
Only one president who lost his reelection bid, but came back to win a second term!
I'm pointing out historical FACTS!
I have NO idea WHY you posted about Stevenson, unless you are alluding to RDS ( who is NOT a charismatic speaker ) and his loss against Trump and/or Biden.
So. You would happily vote for Nikki, Pence or even Chris Christie?
2. My point about those senior appointees is that the President doesn’t pick them. They are subject to Senate confirmation, so you’re going to see the same career bureaucrat losers in those roles no matter which Republican wins.
I can see that happening.
Interestingly, one thing I can absolutely envision Trump doing as President that DeSantis wouldn’t do in a thousand years is leave senior executive branch posts vacant if he can’t get his people confined.
Baloney. Trump only made worse his picks (Session to Barr) as he gained experience in the White House. What makes you think he will change?
If you believe that he lost in 2020 due to cheating and the election was stolen while he was the incumbent, how is he, as a non-incumbent, going to stop it this time?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Not quite a fair question since it’s not Trump alone or any other one person who is capable of stopping the election fraud. And of course your very same question could be directed to any other Republican candidate.
Here’s my advice:
(1) pay close attention to who it is your enemies are most viciously attacking and VOTE for that person; (2) regardless of what criticisms you may have of your preferred candidate NEVER voice those criticisms BEFORE the election. Anyone who cannot follow those two simple guidelines, whether knowingly or not, is aiding and abetting their enemy.
Trump destroyed the Trans Pacific Partnership and that was his greatest MAGA achievement. You never heard a peep out of congress about that. He will have my vote again. WHO voted for the TPP. Did DeSantis?
That being said, America’s jet engine business is on the chopping block and there are talks about giving it away to India. India’s PM Modi was smiling in Trumps face while raiding all the museums while he was here. Why would our country allow a major technology transfer of decades of Material Science from one of our last high end manufacturing centers. I already know that answer.
The Democrats ran Stevenson in ‘52. He lost. For some reason, they thought he could win four years after losing to the same guy. He lost again. (Even though they had a different running mate.)
Running the same guy who lost to their same candidate four years ago isn’t likely to work out well. Grover Cleveland was in the 1890s. Not exactly modern.
That is simply not true.
