Tastes have changed, literally, since Covid, said Chef Art Smith, who has been personal chef to Oprah Winfrey and Jeb Bush. He will be serving hundreds of Mother's Day meals at his four restaurants including his Homecomin' at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World.
The people who visit? "They're drinking more. They want more carbs -- If it's mac and cheese, it has to be the cheesiest. But they want salads, and they want more veg sides, too. They just want more."
Seems they also want more noise. Nowadays, many restaurants blast music that is so loud that you have to shout to converse across the table. Quiet restaurants, for some reason, are becoming hard to find.
Call me crazy but when I was in my teens and early 20’s and waiting tables at an upscale Italian & American restaurant I loved working Mothers Days - and Easter and New Years and Thanksgiving. Yeah it was a long tough day but even back in the 1980-1988 when I did it, I would easily make $200+ in tips on those days. I remember one Easter I got a challenging party of 14 or 15 but got a $200 tip just from them.
Admittedly I did spend the day after those holidays vegging out at home. I always asked for the day after holidays off MONTHs in advance.
Modern telco switches are digital with space-time-space or time-space-time strategies along with elastic buffers and bundling data traffic on higher speed digital serial lines (optical). Mother's Day is still a peak usage day, but building capacity is much easier compared to the days of crossbar switches.

What are the odds of these two having the same chef?
Can’t either do their own cooking?
Which is why it is the one day a year I will never go out. Mom is always hosted here and treated with one of my special bumpy cakes. It means I must love her because those things are a pain to make. :)
We’ve pretty much stopped eating out at all. It’s no fun being gouged, yeah I understand their overhead increases, but it’s just not enjoyable anymore...
I don’t know about Mother’s Day but when I worked as a delivery driver for Panera Bread, and worked the dining room between deliveries, Easter was the day I hated working the most.
Some people coming from Church to get a late breakfast or early lunch after church were among the worst – nasty and demanding and rude.
I recall one woman who when placing her order made sure to tell everyone and very loudly that she had a gluten allergy, and not just gluten intolerant but claimed her allergy could be fatal to her and through a fit, a real “Karen” meltdown when she found a very tiny bread crumb on the table where she seated. She and her group were coming from Church, and she had a Bible on the table and was wearing a prominent cross.
But that didn’t stop her from cursing at me and several other ee’s and demanding to speak to the manager.
She demanded I wipe down the table and the chairs with antiseptic wipes and have her food order made all over again for her.
I really wanted to tell her that if you have such severe and life threatening a gluten allergy, perhaps you don’t want to lunch at a restaurant called Panera BREAD!
Waiters and retail workers love to complain about their jobs these days.
Darron sounds like a fag.
1st off I refuse to pay $30 for Eggs Benedict AND there DAMNED SURE better not be any fish eggs on or in it !!!
We had a large Sunday Brunch at a 4 star hotel on Mother’s Day. Did almost 600 people. At $40 a head it added up.
Only brunch bigger was Easter Sunday.
