Days after Mattel announced their first ever Barbie with Down syndrome, a self-described pro-life conservative political commentator released a video on Twitter mocking the doll. Social media users quickly reacted with outrage.
In the video posted to Twitter, Steven Crowder and his co-hosts can be heard snickering and laughing over an Inside Edition feature promoting the doll. “With r*tard strength!” they can be heard saying over the promo, adding, “Is this real? This is real.” They continued to laugh as model Ellie Goldstein, who has Down syndrome, appeared holding one of the Down syndrome Barbies.
“Well, here’s the thing, they really have been going full-bore,” Crowder said, directly facing the camera. “Mattel actually announced plans to expand this, in the name of diversity before the end of the year, with sickle cell Barbie. So that’s something. Look, everyone’s involved! Down syndrome Barbie. Short bus not included! Did she have to say ‘smash through barriers’ when we all know about special needs strength? She doesn’t look that Downs-y! It looks like Amy Schumer Barbie. Now with more r*tard! Professional assistant not included.
Yet the reaction on social media was overwhelmingly negative. “This Barbie is a win for a conservative culture. Why? Because it humanizes a group of *human beings* the other side thinks we should just abort,” conservative columnist Ian Hayworth tweeted. “Instead, he’s ‘joking’ about ‘r*tard strength.’ Gee, I wonder why we’re losing this battle?”
“This is pathetic and heartless. Shame on you,” another Twitter user replied, while another conservative user tweeted, “I actually love this. @Mattel did something good for society by making this doll.”
A Catholic father of seven replied with a heartbreaking photo of his daughter with Down syndrome, who passed away as an infant. “Hey Steven, this is my child,” he tweeted. “Maggie would’ve been 3 next month. She died of the heart failure caused by the Down Syndrome you’re so callously mocking. She deserved every ounce of dignity you and the pro-aborts deny people like her every day. Repent.”
Frank Fleming, a scripted creator for the Daily Wire, also responded with a Twitter thread to the controversy. Fleming has a son with Down syndrome.
“I don’t think I’ll watch the Crowder sketch on the Down Syndrome Barbie and just take everyone’s word it was bad,” he said. “At the heart of our society is the intensely religious notion of equality — that despite our physical differences, each person is of equal and immeasurable value. It is unprovable, but it is True. This is not an easy notion to grasp with. It does not come naturally. It something we struggle with now and will in the future. But it’s central to concepts such as human rights.”
He continued, “When we make exceptions to who matters — to whom we value — it all starts to fall apart. One of the saddest things I’ve ever heard was of countries that have come close to eliminating Down Syndrome (and we know what that means). We have to be better than that.”
He concluded by pointing out that more representation of people with Down syndrome is a positive, not something to be mocked.
“I’m happy Mattel made a Down Syndrome Barbie,” he said. “I’m happy there one of the Lost Boys in the new Peter Pan has Down Syndrome. We need to embrace the beauty in this world, or we ourselves will be less human.”
Crowder’s best video is the Ring security footage from his back porch which shows him terrorizing his 8 months pregnant wife. Fair warning, its hard to watch. The guy is a despicable Ahole.

It might be understood differently by someone who has a Down’s syndrome child. There are places where comedians just don’t need to go.

Welcome to the internet. If somebody messes up in a spectacular and contemptible way, people are going to call him out for it. The blowback he's getting isn't worse or less justified than the blowback people get online every day.
My own opinion: there's a multi-pronged, multi-level war going on against Conservative / Conservative Leaning voices and it's ramping up big time.
They're squelching every voice they disagree with in the run up to the 2024 primaries and election season. All all one hears are pro-Biden/China/Marxist messages for months on end, that combined with their ballot harvesting guarantees them full control of FedGov. That's of course what they've always been after, they've just gotten so much damn' better at it the past 5-7 years.

After watching the video my wife declared that Crowder is completely off limits to me. The problem is that we have known too many other men just like him. What an arrogant fool.
It’s very dissapointing, because he probably was the closest thing to Rush in terms of using humor and entertainment to push conservative causes.
Now it looks like he’s just been playing conservatives for years to make the big bucks, just like every other so-called “Conservative Pundit”.

I have written posts that are too long and convoluted to make my point well. What we have had in this thread are people trying to shut down anyone who thinks that a specific non-politically correct clip about a virtue signaling multinational corporation was funny. And no, this particular clip was not "messed up in a spectacular and contemptible way" compared with the crap we are deluged with by the left almost every minute of the day.
To convolute this post... I will share another tale. My wife and I were at a picnic with a group of mentally challenged young people from a facility where she was on the board of trustees. A young couple came up to us and he said. “We have sex!” The young woman said, “All the time!” A short time later they were found copulating in the bushes by staff who thought there was some type of fight taking place.
Of course, at the picnic table one of the young men removed his member from his pants and began masturbating in front of the group. It was the largest penis that I have seen at any time in my life so at some level I can understand his desire to show it off. Fortunately, the staff was able to get him to put it back behind a closed zipper.
The young man was copulating at the picnic was known as the Don Juan of the facility as he was having sex with numerous partners. There was almost no control over this behavior as any attempts to reign in the situation was said to be violating the rights of the residents.
Birth control pills were powdered and mixed with the food of the young ladies who were known to be sexually active. Someone from the state declared that this was violating the young ladies rights even when it was requested by their families. So for a while there were quite a few unwanted pregnancies which virtually all were ended by abortions. Eventually, birth control pills in the food of the sexually active women was continued.
The point of this story in this conversation is that few if any of the virtue signalers here have a clue of what it is like to try and take care of a group of institutionalized people with down's syndrome. Humor is one of the only ways to cope with it... politically incorrect or not.
And yes, Crowder is kind of a jerk, but it will come back to bite him and maybe he will learn from the experiences.

Steven Crowder is in character he is a comedian after all he is not a politician or somebody who is trying to lead a political movement, he is not trying to be a object of virtue or anything of that sort. He’s just trying to be a conservative rude crude comedian making conversation as if he was just talking among Bros in an unguard railed conversation.
I think you’re reading more into Crowder imploding but I do agree that’s what is happening over all.
Deleting dissenting voices and comedy( I repeat) is pretty much the last nails in the republics coffin.
