Homeless people who set up encampments on the border of Beverly Hills claim they were TOLD to move there by cops - as residents complain they 'fight all hours of the day' and sell drugs

Residents of an upscale enclave of Los Angeles are complaining after a homeless encampment mushroomed in the last few days on the border of Beverly Hills - with one of the tent-dwellers saying they were told to move there by police.

The tents and people arrived on San Vicente Boulevard in Beverly Grove, setting up a camp to the anger of locals.

'They're fighting at all hours of the day. They're doing drugs. They're selling drugs. It's out of control,' said one Beverly Grove resident, speaking to KTLA.

'We pay so much in property tax and so much in income tax, it is not fair for us to live like this.'

Yet James Boss, who has been homeless for over a decade, told the network that he and others were told to move there.

'They told us to come over here,' he said. 'The (sheriff's department) and the police department told us to come over this way because they were going to offer us housing.'

LAPD would not comment when asked whether they asked the homeless population to move to that spot.

Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, has launched a program, Inside Safe, which aims to clear homeless encampments. It is designed to move those currently homeless into permanent housing.

The most recent survey conducted by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority found approximately 69,000 people experiencing homelessness in LA County, and 41,000 in the city in 2022.

About half the homeless population of the city struggles with drug or alcohol addiction, and about a third have serious mental illnesses. Homeless deaths average five a day.

One thing about junkies they are so blasted out of their minds is they will blurt out the truth at all times. No speed bump between their brain, what is left of it, and their mouth.

Hmmmm...that sounds like a Hollywood set. Maybe they're not homeless but really the locals.

Until now, the rich limousine liberal class who have been driving this insanity have been insulated from the consequences of their vapid and destructive virtue signaling ideology and activism. Now it's finally gotten so bad it's encroaching on their posh life styles. Welcome to the party

1/2 of the homeless have drug issues but they make drugs more accessible. Another 30 % should be in some sort of safe institution where they can get the metal health issues addressed.......yet these lib mayors just move them around like trash cans.

I am not sure what the solution is but the pols in LA and elsewhere treat these folks like crap.

Not anything like Beverly Hills, but I live in a leafy, quiet suburb. I grew up in a decaying and dangerous part of Queens (South Jamaica), a third world hellhole. When I see these Ivy-League liberals putting "Hate Has No Home Here" signs and other such fatuous virtue signaling I am appalled. These Beverly Hills jerks should get to enjoy what they vote for. Good and hard.

Yep. They voted for it.

Conservatives who don't understand why liberals keep voting this way don't understand that the liberal narrative is completely opposite from ours. They really, truly, honestly believe that all these issues are the results of Republican action.

They blame Reagan (still) for closing mental institutions, and they blame all conservatives for not embracing socialized medicine, which they think will scoop up these unfortunates and take care of them.

They blame us for not taxing the rich more and building housing for these folks (and paying for their upkeep, because these folks will just turn them into instant ghettos).

They blame us for not raising the minimum wage and implementing a basic universal income, which will magically erase poverty... so they keep voting Democrat and mourn that the real issue is not ENOUGH liberal policies.

As Bannon would say to elite liberals: "Enjoy the suck!"

So, many homeless are drug/alcohol addicts and/or mentally ill. There are mentally ill who live responsibly w/in society and those who do not. The latter should be required to live in controlled state mental hospitals - IMHO. Alcohol/drug addicts living on the street should be required to enter a state or church supervised rehab program. Neither of these suggestions are acceptable to liberal minds.

Any other suggestions for dealing with the addicted and/or mentally ill living on our streets?

If I recall driving along Santa Monica at Beverly Hills there is a nice grass space beside the road for a mile or so, that makes for a very large park and tent area.

Move them in on Larry David’s front lawn, it would make a great episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Yep, they didn’t care when this surrounded the middle class. Their true nature emerges. They ‘care so much’ until it is on their own doorstep.

It’s incredible that the State that claims to be so enlightened, so woke, so concerned for those with less, has the highest level of wealth inequality. It reminds me of the movie “Freejack”, you’re either filthy rich or dirt poor.
