Last year in Portland, 47 Black Portlanders were murdered, 11 Latino Portlanders, and 2 Asian Portlanders. Sixty out of 101 homicides in Portland – the whitest big city in the country – were of people of color.

Do we have similar stats on who committed the murders?

Also, notice the shift between murder and homicides in the stats given. How many were murders vs. accidents or justifiable homicides.

If this was to hire and train additional law enforcement for Portland - and to address courts/judges who turn criminals loose to commit more crimes, I’d be all for it.

Instead I’m sure the paper doesn’t have any of that in mind for the “important commitment” they think is so important.

We need mental health professionals, businesses, police, the district attorney, faith leaders, and street level outreach workers to name a few to come discuss what is working and what isn’t. Portland and Seattle are occupied by the most racist folks I’ve ever witnessed. What they say is so contrary to how they feel, it’s a psychological sickness. That goes for most of the progressive utopian citadels all around our nation.

Just 5.6% of Portland's population is Black.

It would be interesting to know the race of all the arrested murder suspects.

Nationally, only about 40% of Black murders result in a murder prosecution.

About 80% of white murders are prosecuted.

Many USA Hispanics now identify as white, so it is hard to determine an accurate prosecution number. Twenty years ago, about 60% of Hispanic murders were prosecuted.
