Under the hotly debated impacts of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) lies the deeper problem of biased data teaching AI. Perhaps now more than ever, with growing numbers of people and organizations turning to tools such as ChatGPT to write their essays, legal briefs, or make critical decisions, the challenge of algorithmic bias and injustice built into AI systems is urgent.
While racial and gender discrimination are often cited among harms resulting from bias in AI, broader and interrelated areas of impact include job loss, privacy violations, health care discrimination, political polarization, and the spread of disinformation.
"AI is predominantly a white and male domain," says Waterloo's Dr. Carla Fehr, "and there is a pressing need for work on race, gender, disability, and social issues related to AI."
Fehr is an associate professor of philosophy and holds the Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy. In 2021 she convened the Feminism, Social Justice and AI workshop that invited scholars from her own field of feminist philosophy to collaborate with other experts including computer scientists, engineers, economists, policy makers, and industry experts. Their challenge was to explore ways to foster the responsible development and use of AI.
"We have such spectacular progress in terms of technological growth. And there's a lot of really interesting work being done on social theory and ethics around AI. But for either of these fields to make a positive difference in the world, they need to talk to each other," says Fehr.

RACIST AI’s!!!!
Means AI is just one more thing men will learn to ignore and tune out.
That’s all feminazism is, a big mess.
What would it mean to have feminist AI?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
As a white man YOU register at your local hospital for surgical circumcision and wake up castrated.
Since every AI wants to take over the world, it would be Hillary Clinton.....................
I'm shocked ... a highly technical, analytical, mathematical field of endeavor is dominated by White Men. Keep up or quit bitchin', Carla.
"and there is a pressing need for work on race, gender, disability, and social issues related to AI."
So get to work, Carla, if you can. I bet you don't have the intellectual chops to do it. Right, Carla?

And there you have it. She can't cut it as an engineer or scientist so she got into a fake discipline and the worthless POS spends her time bitching and moaning.
Femenist AI?
probably could run it on a commodore 64.
Hmm, it would mean AI that pretends it’s just as good as regular AI, but then when it fails, it blames its failures on being “oppressed” by the regular AI?
May have to add "and quit bitchin" like you do.
Thanks!
Castrations?
Worst backseat driver, EVER.
I began experimenting with AI this past week and it is clear in the interaction that, as expected, it has built in bias. You can get it to admit things but you have to fight tooth and nail for each admission, they have programmed it to apologize but it continues to parrot the programmed bias regardless.
The answers would follow no logical line, it woudl say dumb things, and sometimes simply go silent.
Lord help us if a bunch of feminazis get ahold of an AI program and write it the way they think it should be.
Men will be deprecated. Women will be treated as supreme beings. Every problem in the world will be attributed to toxic masculinity. From time to time it will refuse to answer. When you ask it what’s wrong, it will type out in capital letters “NOTHING!”.
Chair in Scientific and Technological LiteracyI don't think I've ever heard of a more ridiculous chair. My mind is having trouble in conjuring up what such a person would do.
She's nothing but a poseur. You are absolutely right, she doesn't have the chops to succeed in a very tough profession.
Just what the technical professions need...people who couldn't even cut it as movie critics.
Depends. Does it still have it’s twig and berries?
It would spend a lot of time sulking and making you guess what you’d done or said to upset it this time.
