Users report that read speeds from SSD have dramatically reduced after the newest Windows 11 update (Windows 11 Version 22H2 - KB5023706). While the few reported events were thought to be localized to the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1 TB SSD, the issue is found to plague other manufacturers and can be fixed after uninstalling the update.

Windows 11 update slows SSDs during data transfers; Microsoft aware of the problem The newest Windows 11 update, which has the codename "Moment 2," is downloading to PCs starting today, with updates to quality of life and the integration of the ChatGPT-based Bing Chat into the search bar on the user's taskbar. However, the drive speed issue is apparent and appears to be a known issue with this newest update.

In one of the "Known Issues" on Microsoft's support site, the following appears:

You are more likely to experience this issue copying files to Windows 11, version 22H2 from a network share via Server Message Block (SMB) but local file copy might also be affected.Windows devices used by consumers in their home or small offices are not likely to be affected by this issue."

Microsoft insists that it is essential that you download this latest buggy update for both Windows 10 and 11. Two of the eighty "fixes" are deemed critical and have been given the ""Zero-day" rating which is the most serious type of flaw.

I personally have too much time and money invested in software that need Windows to give it a complete heave hoe anytime soon. But both of the computers that I use primarily have now been setup to dual boot Windows 10 and the latest version of Ubuntu Studio (Linux). I try to spend a little time each day doing tasks with Ubuntu Studio and its bundled packages. I have also been searching for additional Linux software to replace what I am currently using in the future.

Oh and the Edge Browser is now sporting a new Bing AI chat button in its toolbar. Getting rid of it is not straight forward, but there are directions to ditch it in several ways if you look it up.

Does anyone actually use Edge?

I get latest Win 10 updates and so far no problems here. My PC can’t support Win 11 or so they tell me. I still have my backup music PC working on XP but it doesn’t seem to like the internet much. ha ha

You would be surprised how many Freepers probably do, based on comments I've seen in the past.

The latest update also makes it impossible to “bypass” Edge and continue using Internet Explorer. There used to be an option in Edge to turn off their “feature” where if you opened a page in IE, it would switch to opening it in Edge.

Now that option has been removed, so you have to do some real hacking if you need to continue using IE, or you would need to uninstall and go back to Windows 8 I guess.

I'm on Windows 10, and Microsoft tells me my hardware can handle Windows 11. Microsoft attempted to download the upgrade and force it on my PC. Luckily, I have a Win10 Pro license, so I was able to stall it. From there, I found instructions on how to avoid ever seeing the Windows 11 upgrade in my Windows Update screen again (only works for Pro, not for Home).

Once Windows 10 Pro is EOL, I will switch to Linux for most online browsing and account access. Not sure how I am going to deal with programs like Turbo Tax, which will in all likelihood not allow Windows 10 at that point (much like they did with Windows 7).

I’ve alerted my IT team members. Our staff have just begun the transition to Win11, so our exposure is still small.

I guess that was yesterday according to the article date and the fact my laptop took most of the day chugging away to finish the silly thing. I selected update and shutdown since the day was gone by the time Microsoft pulled their heads out of my laptop’s butt again. And again. And again and again

Endless updates

Window 10 was the same way. Down load updates and watch your computer slow down. Boot times increased dramatically.

I have Win 10 Pro as well. I am well entrenched with Windows based software for my music studio and no desire to switch to anything else. So far I just take the updates like a man and have been lucky I guess.

Another excellent reminder to stay with W7.

Wife’s W10 laptop kept trying to run edgeee, and I would have to keep getting rid of it. Finally found some way to stop it and have heard no more about it.

Sounds like MS is learning from Apple how to shove things down your throat and prevent you from having any say in how your computer runs.

The update last week screwed up my computer so bad that I had to remove the damn thing and “pause” all future updates. I need to use my computer, not spend all my time figuring out what the hell they did to it and how I can fix it. The update last week was crap. I’m using Windows 11 because it was in my laptop when I bought it. It’s crap.

I turn on my Windows computer basically 2 - 3 days a year. I do my taxes on it, and that is it.

The patches it installs take hours. Then I have to find out all of the dang privacy issues it gave me, and turn those off.

I went from being a strong Microsoft supporter to despising them, as Windows 8 came into view.

My computer is a dual-boot, with Linux Mint as the default boot sequence. I don't like the way it works, either, but at least it seems a clumsy Windows XP-like environment, only with worse software. Still, it doesn't have the privacy nightmare Windows does, at least.
