A black couple has settled a lawsuit with a property appraiser who undervalued their California home by almost half a million dollars.
Paul Austin and Tenisha Tate-Austin’s four-bedroom residence in swanky Sausalito, near San Francisco, was valued at $998,000 by Janette Miller, co-owner of Miller and Perotti Real Estate Appraisers. That figure was $455,000 lower than an appraisal done for a prior mortgage refinance in 2019.
Feeling that their home was worth much more money, the Austins asked one of their white pals to pose as the owner of their residence. They had the home reappraised — and it was suddenly worth $1.48 million.
The Austins decided to sue Miller and her company claiming that her appraisal was “the direct product of racial discrimination.”
The case has now been settled out of court, with Miller agreeing to pay an undisclosed sum of money to the couple. The settlement also includes an unusual twist: The appraiser was also required to watch “Our America: Lowballed,” a documentary about their “white-washed” saga.

Why is California such a cesspit of racism and hate?
What this tells me is that liberals are willing to pay $500,000 dollars more in order to not live near black people.
I don’t get it. I recently sold two houses and never once met the appraiser. Does Kalifornia do it differently? How do you have someone else pose as the owners? Something doesn’t smell right here.
Yep and then lecture the rest of us about our non-existent racism, it all comes down to actual liberal racism and guilt.
I’d rather live next to a black conservative than a white liberal.
BS detector meter pegged.
DING , DING, DING!..............
How unique is their house? Did any nearby houses sell for more in the interim? Last time I dealt with a realtor (and I expect a professional appraiser would be the same) comparable sales were everything. Find nearby houses with a similar yard, square footage and age and then adjust for minor differences.
The Donkey Party is the party of racism, bigotry, oppression.
Very sensitive meter! Probs correct tho.
Are these the same liberals who attacked Scott Adams last week for saying essentially the same thing?

In Sausalito the lot alone may be valued at a million.
Probably a Smolette-esque hoax. But with now way for it to be disproved because of a two-way NDA and no need to produce a perp with a MAGA hat. Pretty sneaky, sis!
Yes.
Liberals can actively punch you in the face, while saying they are not punching you in the face, and they will believe they are not punching you in the face while punching you in the face.
What they believe is reality, regardless of any evidence to the contrary.
Unless you used the same assessor, there is no comparison to prove racism. The first assessor might have arrived at the same figure with a white owner. CA has pretty strict rules on assessors, and he/she will have to provide the comps, measurements and analysis used to arrive at the figure.
20 Years ago, assessors in CA just valued the house at whatever it was selling for to ensure the mortgage was approved. If they didn’t do that, realtors didn’t give them business. Now it is quite regulated.
I would rather live in an exclusively black conservative neighborhood than to live 3 doors down from a white liberal woman.
“I’m having trouble seeing this as worth one and a half million”
many (most?) of the places in Sausalito look like dumps ... the original buildings were vacation homes from the 1920’s-1960’s on the northwest shore of San Franciso Bay
Sausalito is now an enclave for the very, very wealthy ... Sausalito is an extremely desirable place to live for that reason ...
Good for the couple. The appraiser should lose her license. At any rate, I hope the settlement hurt the appraiser badly.
