Metformin, the gold standard for diabetes treatment, causes modest weight loss The cheap drug is popular among tech figures for purported anti-aging benefits
It is one of several highly popular tools out there for promoting weight loss
A cheap diabetes pill has become the latest craze among tech moguls who claim it can reverse aging and melt body fat - but it can cause explosive diarrhea.
Studies show the 20c pill promotes weight loss, while preliminary studies in mice models suggest the medication can improve life and health spans.
Metformin - the world's most common treatment for type 2 diabetes - has gained traction in recent years among people like Ariel Poler, a veteran angel investor in biotech, and Jim Mellon, a UK entrepreneur and co-founder of the biotech firm Juvenescence.
Metformin has in some ways been overshadowed in recent months by other, more effective weight-loss drugs like Wegovy and Ozempic.
But those drugs can cost more than $1,000 a month, need to be injected regularly and are currently facing a national shortage.

I take nicotinamide riboside, You must be referring to the assertions made about taking NMN. Without NAD+ floating around in our cells we would be dead. NAD+, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, is a critical coenzyme found in every cell in your body, and it’s involved in hundreds of metabolic processes. But NAD+ levels decline with age.
I’ve read articles about Metformin reducing some cancer rates by 50 to 75%.
“I take NR for NAD+, 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in the am.”
Can you recommend a brand of NR?
Here is what Amazon has listed>>>>>>

The olive oil to help absorb it? Empty stomach?

Metformin moderates insulin swings and spikes. Which is a key to good health.
Nope. It’s NAD +. Do a search. Linked to cancer. Some downplay the research showing the link. The link to cancer is why I don’t take it every day.
Here is an example of a scientist discussing the NAD issue
https://www.scienceofnad.com/post/does-nr-cause-cancer
If you have cancer..or at high risk genetically for triple negative cancer as I am as per my genetics test...then you have to rethink NAD +. I wouldn’t be taking it at all if I didn’t have a different genetic issue that may mean I am low on it. I can’t find a test that I can get a Dr to order to check my levels other than a B3 test which is not the same.
Pay attention to what that Dr says at the end. It’s basically a crapshoot. Science just doesn’t know right now. It’s going to depend on your body and your genetics as to whether NAD+ is going to help you in the long run.... Harm you..or do nothing to you.
Btw..that author is a lawyer not a Dr...but what he says still stands..I will be dead before they ever have a study that is conclusive on the issue
Anybody still exercise?
To be honest, I got constipated enough to need surgery for an anal fissure... not fun.
