A newly resurfaced video of a DoorDash driver who refused to give a man his food after he only tipped her $8 for a delivery in 2021 has gone viral.
The video, which was been viewed nearly one million times on YouTube, shows Ring camera footage of the woman yelling at the man for the seemingly measly tip when she went on a 12-and-a-half mile trip for the food.
According to the woman, the man “must not realize” how far she traveled to collect the food. The woman explained that she had to drive to Commack, Long Island to pick up the savory food and then travel to Smithtown, which she claimed took her 40 minutes.

Most good drivers will take a job if it is at least a dollar a mile, which I think is reasonable. But the clients often think we are employees of the restaurant and think the restaurant should be paying us. DD is sort of like Lyft with food instead of passengers. I can’t tell you how many times a client has reamed me after the fact in a text message for the rotten food. I always politely tell them how to contact Door Dash with their complaint and wish them a much better outcome in the future.
Door Dash is a fun job. I was a legal secretary for 40 years and a fitness trainer, too. When I retired I picked it up for a little extra income, but it is so much fun that I’d do it even if I didn’t need the money. But I am sickened by the drivers who give those of us who care a black eye, and so do so many other good drivers I know.
Commack to Smithtown can be a long trip due to traffic at certain times of the day. Not sure I’d order food that has to come come from so far away even without traffic .
Considering the trailer trash I see picking up people’s food, no way would I ever use one of those delivery services. I also see stolen food that is disturbing enough.
That’s really weird. I know which restaurants deliver. If I go to DD, or some other service, I know it’s someone unconnected to the restaurant.
“…but it is so much fun that I’d do it even if I didn’t need the money.“
Dang, you can’t POSSIBLY live in the LI NY metro area!
Most customers don’t bother to be informed. :-D Really, in essence, Door Dash is our own business. We take out our own taxes, use our own cars and supply our own gas. Door Dash pays a pittance to tempt us, and gives us “promotions” if we do well in a month which gives us access to better paying jobs (sometimes...). I know people who make incredible profits driving for DD — more than I did as a legal secretary! — but I think that would take all the fun out of it. I love doing it and I really do try to do my best, remembering that the client is the boss.
Nah, I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. LOL!
Do you ever deliver to the same client?
I hear you. I wish Door Dash was more selective with who they let drive.
I sometimes deliver to the same clients every day, but it’s a good mix of old and new. I’ve even made friends with my regulars.
I have to admit and am embarrassed by an incident a few days ago. I have a running injury that sometimes limits my range of motion. Stairs have been a challenge. I delivered a Safeway order to a client a few days ago and she wanted me to bring heavy cases of water up several flights of stairs. I admitted to her that I didn’t know if I could, to which she replied, “Then you shouldn’t be doing the job.” I said, “You are absolutely right,” and I carted two big cases of water up the stairs for her. Fortunately, I was no worse for wear because of it, but she was absolutely right. So now, I try to stick to restaurant deliveries. They’re pretty safe!
I've taken to paying by cash for takeout as much as I can. It avoids them flashing the checkout screen at you which always has the "tip" cluster amounts. Of course, those tip amounts are based on the total bill, which includes sales tax. You don't tip on sales tax.
Doesn't mean I won't tip. I just find the push for one annoying.
So does the business model of giving parking priority to curbside customers who are to lazy to waddle into the store to do their own shopping while those who aren’t have a personal shopping cart rammed up their backside every time they stop to get something off of a shelf.
We are thinking of starting to order items ahead at Walmart due to their policy of a couple check outs open at any time of day. And yes we shop there because they are the only store close to us to get most items we buy. Otherwise we have to travel at least an hour to get to other stores that prices are less than the big box grocery stores like Publics, Winn Dixie and the like. With gas prices...it is better for us.
I think they also flood the market, so good drivers are pushed out or flooded by bad drivers. I used a door service in Denver that was selected by the restaurant, and they had uniformed drivers and good service. Not booger eating skanks with beat up cars. They had clean cars and clean drivers.
HUH!!!!>>>
Well Naps....how much should they make?...
I just get it shipped to my door step,.
I’ve heard that GrubHub doesn’t provide the tip information until after the delivery has been completed.
She accepted to do the delivery. She knew from the beginning that it was 12 miles away. I hope they fired her entitled fat ass.
