Asked about his philosophy in life, movie star Harrison Ford said this week that he was "raised a Democrat" and "my moral purpose was being a Democrat."
The Indiana Jones actor talked to the Hollywood Reporter about politics and religion, saying that as a younger man, "I didn’t have any religious construct, but I think nature and God are the same thing."
The interviewer noted that "one of your majors in college was philosophy" and wondered, "Has any of that stayed with you?"
Ford responded with a long answer weaving in religion and politics: "There’s a Protestant theologian named Paul Tillich who wrote that if you have trouble with the word ‘God,’ take whatever is central and most meaningful to your life and call that God."
He then volunteered, "My mother was Jewish, my father was Catholic, and I was raised Democrat — my moral purpose was being a Democrat with the big D."

Tennyson's poem, "The Lady of Shallot," is about this exact phenomenon. The gifted artist/author/actor is successful because they (are cursed to) interpret the real world from outside of it. If they choose to live in it, the loss of their unique perspective is fatal (at least to their craft).
They've all gone to hell.
That many Republicans? There’ll be more purges.
The Golden Calf was central to their life, so it was ok to deify it, per Ford.
I think this is true far more often than anyone imagines:
“There’s a Protestant theologian named Paul Tillich who wrote that if you have trouble with the word ‘God,’ take whatever is central and most meaningful to your life and call that God... My mother was Jewish, my father was Catholic, and I was raised Democrat — my moral purpose was being a Democrat with the big D.”
Tillich sounds like he encouraged idolatry, but he nailed defining idolatry in a modern context.
Yep. It has been said Marxism is a type of Christian heresy.
“I was raised Democrat — my moral purpose was being a Democrat with the big D”
The truth is here:
Exod. 32:8 They have made themselves a molten calf and bowed low to it and sacrificed to it, saying, ‘This is your God, O Israel, who brought you out of the land of Egypt’
The truth is also here:
Ronald Reagan: “I didn’t leave the Democrat party. The Democrat party left me.”
The BIG D now stands for DEMONIC!!
I think acting must do do something really weird with your head..
Case in point; Ted Danson's relationship with Whoopi Goldberg.. I mean, imagine THAT, if you will.. UGH.!
I thought big “D” was diarrhea.
Sentient OK, sentiment being, who knows?
You have been chastised by the spelling police:)
I suppose it’s human nature for a lot of folks to see those that have some notoriety as having some special insight or knowledge that little people don’t have. A LOT of people are wrong. Same with product endorsements. Some celebrity says use “xxx” and people buy the crap out of it. Insane!
Those allowing illegal drugs and people to flow across our boarder killing Americans and their jobs are not a "son of a b----."?
Those allow Americans to live homeless on city sidewalks causing all types of problems just so they can have “voters” are not a "son of a b----."?
Those who campaigned from their basements, never going out to campaign events yet get elected somehow are not a "son of a b----."?
Man you have a weird definition of SOB..... I love those Fake Concerns trumping those who actually solve problems. No Mr. Ford, you and your kind are the real "son of a b----."!
So, in other words, he’s never given a thought to why he votes as he does.
“I didn’t have any religious construct, but I think nature and God are the same thing.”
Poor guy. He is getting close, though. We should all pray that Ford comes to the realization and Truth that God is MANIFEST in His creation.
My sentiment exactly! You would think that after all the fame and fortune, he wouldn’t need to spout the Hollywood crap. I guess as he gets older, the roles aren’t so plentiful and he’d better toe the line to keep ‘em coming.
“I was raised Democrat — my moral purpose was being a Democrat with the big D”
What a sad way to raise a kid: as a member of a political party.
“Take whatever is central in your life and call that G-d”
That’s exactly the opposite of the commandment.
What an idiot.
False “gods” come in many flavors: not so much Zeus and Thor these days, but the false dieties are more likely to be money, fame, power, politics, “Mother Earth” (which I guess is just paganism 101), etc.
