You may have noticed that the Academy Award nominations were announced this week.
It is also notable that few cared.
That's really too bad because one of America's great cultural contributions to the world is our film industry.
Well, it used to be, anyway.
Gone are the days of the glamorous movie star and incredible films. Today we have superheroes blowing stuff up and dinosaurs rampaging through San Diego - frightening everybody except the homeless who are not moving from the Gaslight District, no matter what.
The televised Oscar show will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who'd better watch himself, or an audience member might pull a Will Smith.
Kimmel is your essential wise guy, but he understands the woke world in which he lives. As Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young once sang: "Step out of line, and they'll come to take you away."
Anyway, few care about politically correct Hollywood these days. Don't believe me? Okay, what was the best picture last year?
It was CODA. Didn't see it. But I'm sure it was woke.
See you tonight for the No Spin News.
Will Smith probably thought it was safe to bitch slap Chris Rock because no one was watching.
“You may have noticed that the Academy Award nominations were announced this week.”
The what? Musta missed it.
“[O]ne of America’s great cultural contributions to the world is our film industry.”
Uh....no.
The problem with the Oscars is that no matter how atrocious the crap they produce, somebody’s going to get an Oscar and everybody’s going to applaud.
The last Oscar show I watched was, I think, 1973. It was the one where David Niven was speaking and a guy, sans clothing, (this was during the streaking fad)ran in front of the live camera. Niven than quipped, “There’s a fellow showing his shortcomings”, or something like that.
I always thought it was a set-up, planned in advance, because the camera only showed the guy from the waist up.
Who really gives a crap outside of Hollywood???????
See it?!
I've never even heard of it!
(Which I found to be ironic when I looked it up)
They may have, but Buffalo Springfield had the hit song. Shared band members...
Wokeness killing our institutions until there is nothing left.
...and I care so little that I quit after that sentence.
There’s much to dislike:
- Woke movies
- Boring movies
- Sequels followed by more sequels
- Actors and Actresses treated like they’re a special and should be adored
- Super-Gay announcer obsessing over what they’re wearing
- Affirmative action overload
- Acceptance speeches from brain dead people
There are some good/great movies that deserve recognition. But what the format they present it in today…. No thanks.
There were only a handful of Oscar winners I really enjoyed, like “Patton”, “Braveheart”, “Gladiator”, “The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King”, “The Bridge On The River Kwai” and “Lawrence Of Arabia”.
I didn’t watch the Oscars even as a kid in the 70’s. I sure don’t want to waste time doing it today. And I don’t think a streaker from back then would think there’s enough public attention today to waste his/her time either.
What is up with that anyway?
I haven’t watched the Oscars since, like, ever.
The movies I watch never get nominated.
Too short and usually no script....................😉
It was the Buffalo Springfield that sang “FWIW”.
Some of the same personel, but a different band than CSN&Y.
Bill is old enough to know the difference.
Just Sayin’.
:-)
If a brother bitch slapping another brother on live TV can’t save it nothing can.
Some racis’ whining is the only thing I was aware of. Don’t really give a 💩 about these self indulgent assclowns.
It was, but not anymore. Most good films come from the foreign community these days.
