Social media users have been left bewildered after discovering that 550 divided by two is 275 - and not 225 as many seem to instinctively assume.

At my first job out of college a crazy old chemist guy used to test young engineers with various algebra to calculus type problems. We became good friends because I was the only young punk ass engineer who solved his last problem in 5 minutes…
A caterpillar crawls onto an infinitely elastic rubber band.
The initial length of the rubber band is 8 inches.
The inchworm moves forward along the rubber band at a rate of 1 inch per minute
At the end of each minute, the rubber band instantaneously stretches in length by 8 inches
How long if ever will it take for the inchworm to reach the end of the rubber band?
I see these type of postings and usually just ignore them as so much spam. Like in old days getting into an argument with some random doofus on a chat room. My instant answer when I read the title comes from likely about grade 4-5 = “make it simple what’s half of 500? Then what’s half of 50? Then add those two”. Are we really producing students out of school so brainwashed with POC and PC that they cannot do this?
I've seen a slightly different version on multiple occasions:
"Math is two hard!"

If you really want to blow their minds, next time you make a retail purchase, “top up” the odd change when you pay.
It’s fun to watch the smoke come out of their ears as they try to figure out what sort of confidence game this old geezer is trying to put over on them.
I wonder if Safeway still has the machine on the counter that dispenses the coins in a customer’s change. The cashier only had to deal with the bills. Debit and EBT cards make it even easier on the currency-challenged. Digital currency will finish us all off.
In woke math, powers should be eliminated because it comes from white supremacy.
In woke math, roots should be eliminated because it is cultural appropriation.
In woke math, squares should be eliminated because it is shaming.
In woke math, acute angles should be eliminated because everyone is beautiful.
In woke math, commutative laws equal the playing field in our justice system.
In woke math, distributive laws are social justice.
In woke math, associative laws are elitist and should be banned.
In woke math, limits should be banned because everyone should be encouraged to reach their full potential.

I’m sorry I don’t on a scientific calculator like you do.
Funny, I guess so is English.
Your Head looks like a 🥜 Peanut!

“...We have reached max stupidity and are officially living in the movie Idiocracy!...”
Reminds me of the time I tried to pay for something in a fast food joint with a two dollar bill. The manager threatened to call the police and have me arrested for passing fake money.
Morons! But these are our future politicians. And just how do they plan to count their bribes and kickbacks?
You probably do.
The windows calculator has both a Standard and a Scientific mode
Why do plants hate math? Because it gives them square roots.
We had to make those in elementary school. I don’t remember what the minimum was, but you could take it as far as you wanted. And if I see “169,” I think 13 squared. And doing 17x19=100+70+90+63 is second nature. The brain needs to be trained.
At N=0 when he initially crawled onto the end of it?
“Witch!”
A couple of years ago here in MA, there was a politician talking about a tax increase from 4% to 5%. He said it was only a 1% increase.
But if everyone is to be treated as members of a group instead of individuals, you have to have the associative law! What is a woke mathematician to do??
By the way, it seems the closure law is quite exclusive. Gotta get rid of that one, for sure!
I knew a guy who was nearly a virtuoso pianist as a teenager. He studied Engineering in college and didn’t touch a piano for four years. When he graduated, he found that he could barely stumble through anything.
Perishable skills perish when they aren’t used.
