Anyone else feel this is a big mistake backing a loser like McCarthy?
It has been obvious to any of us on FR for weeks that he doesn't have the votes to be speaker and all this would happen yet Trump has backed him with gusto.
He cannot possibly be speaker after all this and still has no where near the votes anyway.
I feel again Trump has made an error in who is supporting or promoting....
Jim Jordan.
Very true.
He thinks McCarthy will eventually win. I liked Trump a lot more when he wasn’t trying to be a Republican.
What we need to be concerned about is that the Democrats will sabotage the process by shifting enough of their votes to McCarthy for him to win. They can do this obliquely by simply going home because I think the vote is based on members present. Then we will surely know we are royally screwed.

According to the Rino elite, Trump’s endorsement is a Kiss of death. So far, McCarthy is just a squatter in the speaker’s office.
Trump has his reasons.
Even though he’s slowly losing support, McCarthy still had 202 of the 222 GOP House members behind him in the last vote. Trump endorses people when he thinks they will win. It’s that simple.
But what ARE they? Why persist..
I’d love to be a fly on the wall.

202 votes is not enough. No where near it.
This thing could go on until as Hostage said McCarthy gives up
And lets hope that is soon...
Trump has not learned one lesson from his time in office.
He continues to choose horrible people and endorse even worse ones.
He feeds the Deep State and makes clumsy mistakes that hurt him politically.
Trump is not the man who ran in 2016.
He can’t lose.
If McCarthy gets it, he owes Trump and owes him even if he doesn’t get it.
If he loses so much the better.
Trump hasn’t done anything right in quite some time now. It’s gotten so bad he’s pretty much been hiding in Joe Biden’s basement lately.
But he did poke his head out long enough last night to give a quick interview with NBC, of all people, where he basically withdrew his support for McCarthy:
Trump refuses to say if he still backs Kevin McCarthy for House Speaker
At the same time Trump was pulling the rug out from McCarthy, McCarthy was giving interviews saying he just spoke to Trump and still has his full support:
McCarthy Insists Trump Still Backs Him For Speaker
Trump may think he’s avoiding the McCarthy bonfire by throwing him under the bus now, but he won’t be able to wash his hands that quick. Instead he looks like someone who simply picked McCarthy because it looked like an easy win, even though he should have known how bad he would be for the country, and now wants to bail on him when the going got a little tough.
I’m still guessing the big money will eventually pay off enough people that McCarthy wins, but kudos to Matt Gaetz and the merry band of pirates for causing the big boys to at least squirm a little. And maybe if we’re lucky, we actually will get a different Speaker.
Because just like on here. All that matters is that he can win and has an “R” behind his name. With no thought about the quality or loyalty of that “R”. Or consider that even if the “R” wins we are still losing.
The point is … it’s still 202 out of 222. And McCarthy appears to be dumb enough to want the job, so there’s always that.
There’s a lot of truth in your statement and friendly criticism.
I wish it were different.
Probably an attempt to get the 10-20 hold outs to back McCarthy so some dem doesn’t get the votes instead since there really isn’t any legitimate option baring some crazy miracle.
The only way the Dems get a speaker is if Republicans vote for the Dem.
If that happens, then those Republicans are toast in the long run.
202 is not 218.
