Is made with real colonels.
TBH, the fried chicken at *most* Popeye’s is first rate if you love spicy breading.
A special hat tip to the original Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), not all their later versions.
Luh dat chiggin
The best fried chicken I ever had was at the historic San Gorgonio Inn in Banning, Calif., which was once a stagecoach station. However, when the highway though San Gorgonio Pass became an Interstate freeway, business declined. Although it went through several changes in ownership, they retained the fried chicken recipe. Unfortunately, it’s now a vacant lot.
“2-Thumbs up!”
4 legs up!
Was contracting in Waukesha, WI several years ago...They advertised southern fried chicken on the companies cafeteria menu...
I went through the line and asked one cook where was the fried chicken??? He heard my accent and asked me where I was from...
I said Tennessee...He told me he was from Atlanta...He pointed and said THAT is what are calling fried chicken...It looked like plain baked chicken...No breading or anything...
He was a black guy and then told me don’t even think about looking for any country ham up here and both of broke out laughing...
I never thought chicken could taste that good when I found Gus’ in Memphis. It’s like a whole other food.
I had some great Fried Chicken at the Mount Vernon Inn.
The Chicken Dinner Restaurant at Knott’s Berry Farm, an amusement park in Buena Park, Calif. still turns out good fried chicken. They now offer takeout, which is twice as expensive as KFC but tastes many times better.
My mother worked there as a waitress in 1942, when it was still a berry farm. But I contend that the food was better in the 1950’s, when some of the chickens came from my uncle’s chicken ranch which sat on the present-day site of Disneyland.
Mom did good fried chicken.
With biscuits and milk gravy.
To die for!!!
KFC is not bad but too far from me.
I like Publix’s fried chicken.
50 years ago Colonel Sanders KFC was so incredibly good I can still remember everything about it, including the gravy and mashed potatoes.
Today it’s a cruel joke in comparison.
Some very good chicken at Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q over in North Carolina....
Yes. I make buttermilk fried chicken in my air fryer. First marinate in buttermilk. Dip in buttermilk and egg, throw in some Cajun seasoning in the double dipped spicy flour. Very good.
Man, you are right about that!!!!!!!!
That’s sad. So many good things up and vanished with no trace except the few remaining with memories. Interstate 10 I presume.
I also like Popeyes. But for opinions on the best fast food fries Chicken, I always refer to this Southerner’s input:
And some dry white toast
Aunt M’s (circle k) exit 95 off I 85 in SC. I want chicken livers now.
Another great thing about Colonel Sanders was a Chicken Dinner meal (two pieces, Breast and leg, mashed potatoes and gravy, biscuit) was $1.25...This was late ‘60’s....
I swear KFC changed its recipe some years ago. It just doesn’t taste as good.
I like Popeye’s, but I find it too greasy. Louisiana Fried Chicken, a small chain found mainly in black neighborhoods in Southern California is better.
The best takeout fried chicken in LA is Jim Dandy’s on Vermont Ave. at the 105 freeway. Because it is in such a high crime area, the staff works behind a window made from bulletproof glass and you make your payment and receive your order through a metal slot under the window—sort of like doing business at banks in high-crime areas.
Best fried chicken is at Cahill’s Market, Bluffton SC. 16 oz PBR for a dollar.
