To get elected, you need to have views that don't offend the voters or the donors. A good way to do that is never to think, but just say what voters want to hear and do what donor want done.
Also, a college degree, an elite university degree, or a graduate degree don't mean what they once did. Earlier, they might have had little to do with real world politics, but they meant that you at least knew something. Now it seems like degrees just mean that you can parrot the fashionable opinions of the day.

God Bless Thomas Sowell. I have been playing his audio books in my shop and sometimes I just have to stop what I am doing and replay a section 5 or 10 times to absorb his brilliance. One of my favorites is an interview where their host asks about Obamacare.
