Okay. Calling Capt. Obvious.;-)
That said, I saw a video the other day in which a neuroscientist (I think it was Dr. Andrew Huberman) said that turning on a bright light to go to the restroom in the middle of the night significantly disrupts the body's steady flow of nighttime melatonin and makes it impossible for some people to return to sleep.
That is a comment that caught my attention. Now that I am older, I make many visits to the restroom at night and I turn on some bright lights when doing so. When I return to bed, I definitely find that I have trouble returning to a deep sleep (particularly after midnight).
So I tried a new approach.
Instead of turning on my bedside lamp, the hall light, and then the bathroom light, I keep my tac-light at my bedside with the brightness at a very low level (just enough visibility that I don't step on a cat tail protruding from beneath my bed). A weak flashlight would be just as effective.
Long story, short, it seems to work. Returning to bed from a visit to the loo, I immediately fall right back into a deep sleep and feel much more rested in the morning.
Of course, this is purely anecdotal, but I thought some fellow Freepers might be interested.
As an aside, I can't locate the exact video source for this topic, but, in the end, it doesn't matter because each person's experience will certainly vary.
I bought these little motion detector nightlights that have two brightness settings, that works very well for me.
My level of sleep definitely affects my kidneys. I go the the bathroom less on the sleep apnea machine but I haven’t been using it lately.
Also if I knock myself out. I have been experimenting with a cough suppressant for histamine intolerance after reading an article by a guy researching low dose naltrexone. So for example..half a tablet of the DM product last night let me sleep through the night with no bathroom break and I had less itching. Same happens with less than 5 MG of LDN
WHERE do they stick the needles?
We just leave a dim nightlight in the bathrooms - enough light to get you there but not bright enough to disturb the eyes.
Oh for Pete’s sake! Just purchase one of those little night lights and plug it into a socket in the bathroom. My family has done that for about 45 years.
My middle of the night trips to the bathroom are needed. If I knocked myself out like that, I’d be changing the bed in the morning.
Nah, it’s BPH. Ive had it since my late 20’s.

I’m a late bloomer.
One of my son’s is a trucker. He came to visit for the weekend and I dropped him off at his rig on Sunday. Since I hadn’t been inside before, he gave me the grand tour, unmade bunk and two one gallon bottles of amber liquid and all.
I’m good at moving around the house in the dark but my wife is not always appreciative of me not using a light in the bathroom if I get up in the night
I hate any light at night when I’m sleeping and light definitely affects your sleep cycles so I’ve got some dim motion activated led lights mounted in the bathrooms (facing to the side or down so I don’t look right into them) and it works great
Red lights would be better but at least use warm white leds and not those god awful blue/white led lights
That’s a good one... :)
You can also tell you are “off target” by the sound the trash can makes. ;-D
my toilet lights up slightly when it senses me near it, so I am able to see during the night without this happening.
Medical researchers have,in recent times, come to better understand just how important sleep is to one’s mental...*and* physical...health. I’ve read that research has shown that the best, the “healthiest”,sleep occurs in a room that is *completely* dark.
No fluid intake after 6PM...go to the bathroom *just* before you turn in.Works for me!
Doesn’t work. Affects aim.
Ask my wife.
3 AM
I need a new Drug.
Try a babys night light.
