Australian baggage handlers have been issued a stern warning by the CEO of a top national ground services provider after shocking footage of mishandling emerged online.
Qantas and Swissport Australia have launched an “urgent investigation” after employees were filmed slamming luggage onto a conveyor belt.
The footage, understood to have been filmed at Melbourne airport, shows three baggage handlers – who have been stood down pending investigation – throwing, kicking, and slamming passengers’ luggage onto a conveyor belt.
Some bags are thrown so hard that they fall off the other side of the belt.
...
One man is shown laughing while another man lifts a bag above his head, hurling it down towards the belt with force.
In another instance, one of the three handlers is shown throwing a bag a considerable distance down the line, despite the belt being right in front of him.
...
A Qantas spokesperson said the incident was “clearly not acceptable”, confirming an “urgent” probe was underway.

Guess they used to work for UPS.
In addition to handling luggage, I would empty out plane lavatories, top off the drinking water and run the mail to the airport postal facility. NEVER trust the drinking water on a plane by the way.
As for the luggage, I saw all sorts of shenanigans like what these guys did. Once the luggage got into the hold, some workers would rifle through luggage that was not locked, looking for valuables. I don't think they can get away with that these days because everything is on camera. Even the cargo holds now have cameras.
I’ve seen some bad ones, but that video really doesn’t look so bad to me. Snowflake world.
Brought back a college days memory. I used to deliver mail for the campus and each day at Noon our big truck would go to the Detroit Post Office near the river and we would unload a lot of outgoing bags on the dock.
Inside, the US postal workers would handle the signing in. More than once we saw the guys there tossing small and medium boxes of mail to each other with joking basketball moves (behind the back, over to the left after after a feint to the right) and toss them into various canvas bins.
They would joke “Uh, oh, this one is special, handle with care” and maybe give it a knee kick or a light tap off the cinder block wall. Funny stuff.
Joe Biden’s non-binary drag queen nuclear waste guru Sam Brinton was caught - when it, them, they - . on camera stealing a bag’ from baggage claim ..

Low- lives..
They ought to be like entrepreneurial American baggage handlers and go through every piece of luggage, stealing whatever they want…
Honestly can’t remember. Now that they canceled Masterpiece Theater I haven’t seen it in a long time.
Remember one favorite line.
The villain is told “Because of this thousands of people will die.”
“Remind me to send a sympathy card.”
Cannot see any film yet.
I have to wonder if part of the concern is because of all the soft suitcases now.
Hard-side has fallen out of favor, though I have no idea why. Fabric just isn’t as ought do protective. Never mind you can sit on a real Samsonite.
Denver tried a high-tech, computerized baggage handling system .. designed to use PCs and thousands of remote-controlled carts .. for a decade = $230 million + , then gave up on the failed project..
“...that video really doesn’t look so bad to me.”
Me, either, except for the one time the guy in the foreground picked the bag up over his head and slammed it down. Other than that, it looks like guys in a thankless, never-ending job responding to “faster, faster, faster” pressure from management.
True fact.
I worked with a flight attendant in the early 90’s and her husband was a baggage handler. She had the most expensive jewelry- vintage wedding rings, bracelets, a solid gold cross, compliments of her husband stealing from passengers. They lived in a mobile home and were poor as snakes so they definitely couldn’t afford it.
I still despise her.
They love to damage large checked bags. Breaking off wheels etc. But the stuff that really gets these morons going are the obvious gear cases like musical instruments, hunting gear and skis.
