I thought about retiring to NW Arkansas, maybe somewhere between Mena and Fort Smith, but my wife wanted to stay in Arizona. We compromised by staying in Arizona.
So is Texas.
Maybe they should take one for the team. Move to a blue state and help turn it purple... (I jest).
About 60 years ago, I heard there were lots of good-paying jobs in Detroit.
Now, I don’t even know if it’s reclaimable as farmland.
Lol.
Prescott, AZ. Rarely gets over 90 and when it snows, melts quickly.
One of the highest crime rates in the state of florida?
We are in north Florida. Really nice area and friendly. Our county went red this past election. I love love love Georgia in the foothills of the Appalachian Trail area. There is great hiking, waterfalls and beautiful scenery. The Helen GA area is really a place to be. There are times I wish we had moved there but then after the last couple of elections I am glad we stayed in Florida...for now.
Wife and I chose extreme NE corner near Johnson City. They have a huge medical facility/infrastructure that fit our needs well. Plus, the right property came along so we pulled the trigger.
If it were just for the climate, and not the politics, Id probably prefer Washington state. For a Canadian, 34F daytime highs is pretty good. I could garden 12 months of the year.
Appalachia then
I meant 54F
Bristol TN/VA has some nice real estate options. All the industry that built the homes is gone. Bluefield WV is the same way.
Here’s a Bluefield example

Missouri is good place if you like ticks, chiggers and humidity. We have mild winters though.
Soviet Red Hampshire??? HELL, NO!
You make the great point we all realize as some time as we get older: It is good to be near family. All the rest is just a choice of proper clothing, vehicle and maintaince tools.
Agreed....no vacancy.
It’s such a shame. I’m partial to the city because my great great grandfather, Nelson Tift, found Albany and Tifton, GA. I have the best memories of the city when I was young. I even lived there for a bit in my late 20s.
He without typing mistakes should cast the first stone. 🙂
“So is Texas.”
Odd considering the number of texas license plates I see just in my town alone is unbelievable.
