Bad news for the future of medicine and the future of human life. While radical politics had consumed the ‘soft sciences’ and most impractical academic fields, the practical ones, especially the sciences, were generally intact. In the last decade, all of academia has crumbled.
Quotas are everywhere and woke mandates have displaced academic ones.
That means people will die. Because we’ll have doctors who got there by talking about their victimhood, but are not qualified to do anything more than posture and virtue signal about their pain.
Forty-four percent of medical schools have tenure and promotion policies that reward scholarship on “diversity, inclusion, and equity.” Seventy percent make students take a course on “diversity, inclusion, or cultural competence.” And 79 percent require that all hiring committees receive “unconscious bias” training or include “equity advisors”—people whose job it is to ensure diversity among the faculty.
The pattern here is the familiar one with upward and downward pressure leading to diversity mandates that detract and undermine the core mission.
The report indicates that more than a third of medical schools offer extra funding to departments that hit diversity targets, half require job applicants to submit diversity statements, and over two thirds “require departments/units to assemble a diverse pool of candidates for faculty positions.”
And they’re getting them. Not medically qualified, but politically qualified.
In addition, every school reported using a “holistic admissions” process—a euphemism for affirmative action—that assessed applicants’ grades and test scores in light of their race, lowering the academic bar for groups “underrepresented in medicine.”
Instead of doctors being chosen for their ability to help patients, they’re being chosen to make them feel represented.
This is millennial woke narcissism in a nutshell.
Released November 10, the report comes in the wake of a yearlong campaign by the Association of American Medical Colleges to inject “diversity, equity, and inclusion” into the accreditation process. A year ago, the group put out guidelines calling meritocracy a “malignant narrative.”
Now the next generation of medical practitioners will be the least meritorious since the bubonic plague.
After a “holistic admissions process” will medical schools use group work in which every member of the group gets the same grade? Group work is how some people get through law school. Lawyers, however, might lose you a lot of money, or even your freedom, but not usually your health or even your life.
I hope both law schools and medical schools maintain standards for the post graduation exams that must be passed before you are fully certified to be an attorney or an MD. I don’t have much hope, however.
Stock up on Aspirin, Tylenol and Ibuprofen.
The only thing more exciting than an affirmative action medical doctor would be an affirmative action airline pilot.
We can expect a change from “practice” of medicine to “experimentation” of medicine.
They don’t call it “the practice” of flying an airliner. Most people would prefer their airline pilots be beyond the practice stage.
It makes me sick to say this, but I don’t trust my doctor.
Lawyers won’t help, doctors will follow state sanctioned protocols and checklists. No more practicing medicine. Unofficial state health care is coming
New Lawyers are all woke too.
They are being taught that white lives don’t matter.
Everyone has been warned.
They are being chose for their fealty to big pharma and big hospital.
Don't get your hopes up. Asian doctors don't have any special abilities over any other type of doctors. They are just as open to greed, incompetence, arrogance and general lack of good judgment.
Who got the bill passed in Kali that made it a mortal sin punishable by loss of license if you speak ill of the Holy Sacrament of Covid — Dr. Richard Pan
Who effectively blinded my MIL in her right eye when he botched a cataract lens replacement. I won't mention him by name as he is retired now and a private citizen. He is an older Asian fellow. His problem wasn't because he was Asian it was because he refused to retire as his abilities slipped. It was terminal arrogance and greed.
As we worked to get her eye corrected one of the ophthalmologists let slip that they have had to clean up this particular surgeons mistakes for some time.
So don't pin your hopes on a particular group.
that’s what I tell everyone. Don’t ever go to the doctor’s office without becoming at least as knowledgeable about the topic as the doctor.
most doctors stopped learning anything after they left med school
the field of medicine is moving so fast that being even a decade out of date can be fatal for the patient.
never go into a surgery without checking on the expertise of the surgeon. for the more complicated surgeries—the chief risk of the surgery is the competence of the surgeon.
“the chief risk of the surgery is the competence of the surgeon.”
Bingo !!!!
And the 3rd leading cause of death is medical mistakes.

One conclusion a patient could draw is to never go to a younger doctor who went into practice after the woke virus took over.
A great issue for Republican political ads.
My daughter developed a ligament issue (according to PT) on the top of one foot running cross country this fall.
So I take her to Emory Orthopedics in Atlanta, where they treated her for a hip issue a few years ago. I’ve had foot surgery there and loved my doc.
My foot doc wasn’t available so we got a new, young guy.
He looks at the X-rays and doesn’t bother with her foot. “I don’t see anything wrong. Go to physical therapy and maybe they can figure it out.” We asked what it could be. No idea.
My sixteen year old daughter, who doesn’t curse, and certainly not to adults did the following: he turns and opens the door to leave and she clearly states “that was a f-ckin waste of time. Next time can we see someone competent.”
He didn’t flinch. He kept walking. And she was right.
That won't work. I heard on the radio yesterday that more and more law schools are not using the LSAT anymore, so we'll end up with affirmative-action lawyers to go with the affirmative-action doctors.
All I can say is people who write this crap have never worked in a hospital. I’m currently working in the third hospital in 28 years. Like any field there are the good and bad.
I see more of the good than bad.
A good friend with multiple significant health issues was diagnosed with pneumonia in September by a nurse “practitioner” She refused to prescribe antibiotics because she “thinks” they are overused. So my 72 y/o friend with heart disease, diabetes, and COPD got sicker and wound up in the ER where he was diagnosed with sepsis, developed disseminated intravascular coagulation, suffered multiple strokes, and died. I have advised his widow that should she decide to file a malpractice claim against that dimbulb she would likely prevail but the loss is still too fresh.
wonderful news! 121 genders of doctors to choose from.
