Fans flying to the FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar can expect the fan village to be a £185-a-night unfinished shambles where local officials threaten to smash video cameras of unhappy supporters and stop journalists from filming.
With less than 24 hours until the World Cup kicks off with the opening ceremony and clash between the host nation and Ecuador in Doha at the Al Bayt Stadium, the fan villages resemble construction sites.
Footage and images show piles of rubble and sand, ripped up turf and industrial machinery still on-site at the Rawdat Al Jahhaniya fan village, which will be home to thousands of England and Wales fans for the World Cup.

Having performed consulting work in the region I can speak from my experience that in their view there are Arabs, royal Arabs, and kaffir they barely tolerate.
The condescension is palpable.
It’s not that they’re rude per se, it’s just that you need to realize your place in their nation and culture.
All that - to watch soccer?

I love a happy ending
In a way it’s like the NASCAR infield of old, or the Formula 1 fan experience. It’s not so much about the contest, it’s about being there, a part of it all. To see and be seen as part of it all. It’s a festival more than a contest.
You can’t see the race hardly on an oval track infield and F1 sells fan tickets that aren’t even track-side/ track-view.
But all this aside, it’s an insult to the fans to have the event there. BIG MONEY made this happen.
Yep, totally corrupt.
Hysterical. It couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of folks.
Spoiled babies
The couch.......still king of the best seat in the house.

What you CAN do is buy a beer if you want to at those events.......hell nascar even allows bringing in coolers up to a certain size.
This soccer thing is turning out to be a gigantic cluster-fk.
SMH
Morally, I can understand the rules around alcohol. But I cannot understand the lax attitude about hospitality. Guests are paying a lot of 2022 money to be catered to. If they are not, it will reflect not only on Qatar, but their neighboring countries, too.
I know F1 has held events in the region. But I have not heard of any problems at those events that I am hearing about Qatar and the World Cup.
I have heard and read that Qatar changed many rules on the eve of the event. I will marvel if they don’t face some sort of sanction over this.
Somebody gueue the Simpsons ha ha guy.
Thats what u get for liking ‘succer’ suckers. Lol
Have the game in a 3rd world country and be surprised it’s 3rd world like
I can’t stand the tension in a 1-0 soccer game!
This should teach them to not hold events in Islamic Cult countries—hellish conditions, no alcohol, and oppressive police.
These complaining soccer fans sound like American basketball players who try to smuggle marijuana into Russia and then find out that Russia actually enforces its laws.
Can't wait to hear about the first homosexual soccer fan who tries to get a beer to go with their joint. Triple threat.
They could have traveled to the south side of Chicago for half the price and twice the excitement.....
