Evidence has shown COVID cases and hospitalizations tend to rise during the colder months when people congregate indoors. Some health officials warn the virus could surge again in December and January.
Currently, cases and hospitalizations are on the decline in the U.S. after having peaked in late July, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Those who are vaccinated and boosted are at much lower risk of falling severely ill and dying from COVID-19. CDC data shows unvaccinated Americans have a five times higher risk of dying compared to those who've received just a primary series and a seven times higher risk of dying compared to those who also received at least one booster dose.
Experts told ABC News that while vaccination is the best protection against COVID-19, some people may need to consider masking to protect themselves in case infections rise.

I still have a package of masks in my truck, along with hand sanitizer in case I have a covodian customer-I’ve used the sanitizer all the time for years, but haven’t had a customer wanting me to mask for over a year-this is a rural area, and not many of us locals wore them even in the scamdemic unless a business or customer insisted...
I did see a middle-aged couple with masks in the local grocery store on the way home from work on Friday-first masks I’ve seen in a store out here in many, many months-he was wearing his over both nose and mouth-but she had hers down around her chin while picking out veggies-I almost started LOL-they obviously belonged to the really nice truck/travel trailer rig in the parking lot with Oregon plates-snowbirds here to spend the Winter where it is warmer-it explains why they were the only masked people around, I guess-are people still wearing masks in Oregon?...

What? I took my brother in law to ER for broken ribs. No COVID test. We did have to wear a mask. At my regular doctor you no longer have to mask. Quarantine is 5 days if feeling better.

Some people in Oregon are still wearing them. I see them in the supermarket. As a hospital volunteer, I have to wear them when I’m working. For a while we had to wear N95, which were horrible, now we’re back to the pleated surgical masks.
