My wife's retiring in a few weeks and I'll be needing a dental plan. Ours is provided by her employer till she retires.

I thought dental was set up separate from medicare plans. Like you have your medicare options and then you have a dental plan you set up.

Consider the health of your teeth...some insurance may cost more than you will ever need/use.

Medicare plans have very little dental coverage. There are special dental plans available. Check the SS website. The problem with dental plans is that everybody needs work when they get older so the plans are expensive.

I gather that AMAC dental is pretty good.

(AMAC is the conservative alternative to AARP)

I’ve been retired for almost 20 years. Have never had a dental or vision care plan since then. I’m fortunate that other than regular cleanings, I haven’t had to have any dental work done on my teeth all that time. I pay for the cleanings every six month, and x-rays once a year out of my own pocket. I’ve been getting my eyes examined once a year because I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes about 22 years ago. I take oral meds only. I’ve paid for new glasses whenever my prescription changed to the point the old glasses were useless. Next month I’m having cataract surgery on both eyes.

It’s called “cash”. Dental plans are a joke, at least here in New York. I’ve been self employed (truck driver) for the past 40 years (I’m turning 60 in two weeks) and it’s always been a cash business when it comes to dental. One guy lets me pay him off, but the costs are ludicrous.

God never intended for people to live much further than their 20s or 30s and that’s about as long as my teeth have lasted, seriously, there is not one tooth in my skull that isn’t a disaster, Im already missing around 7. Now I got one that feels like it split and my upper gum is swollen like a golf ball

Get anything you need done ASAP, BEFORE she has to go onto Medicare.

I *HATE* Medicare. It’s crap insurance.

I haven’t seen a dentist since 2013, even tho I have insurance. Half my teeth have been capped and the other half are an accident waiting to happen. I think I’ll just have them pulled if they’re molars rather than go through the invariable root-canal-and-crown routine. Dentists have made so much money off my teeth in my 69 years on this planet, it’s not funny.

I was going to get one but am thinking against it. I always liked Delta Dental but I may just use cash instead. For the larger things, I’ll find a dentist who takes CareCredit so I can pay it off interest free.

Many medicare advantage plans provide dental and vision coverage. Or your wife could continue her employer plan for a year on COBRA.
