We’re in the middle of what the New York Times has called the “great gun-buying boom that shows no sign of letting up.” And while the Democrat party spends its time demonizing firearms and those who choose to own them, millions of law-abiding Americans are leveraging their constitutional rights to protect and defend themselves.
This is perhaps no clearer than in the shift in sales from long guns, like rifles, to handguns that are designed for personal protection.
But with a surge in gun sales of this proportion, we have to ask: Why? In other words, what specifically is driving such an increase?
U.S. Gun Sales: Behind the Numbers
In July 2022, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) processed 2.4 million background check requests for the purchase of firearms. That was the third highest July on record -- marking five straight months of historically high gun sales in the United States (and nearly five years of increasing annual totals).
In 2020 and 2021, there were a combined 40 million guns sold. For perspective, there were less than 40 million combined guns sold in the five-year stretch between 2000 and 2004. And the number of guns sold in 2021 is more than twice the number sold in 2001. From 2021 to 2022, gun sales in the U.S. have risen by 155 percent.
No state sold more guns in 2021 than Texas, where there was a total of 1.6 million firearms sold. Florida and Pennsylvania followed behind. But in terms of per-capita gun sales, Wyoming ranks first (0.19 guns sold per adult 21 years or older).
Ironically enough, the District of Columbia saw the largest increase in gun purchases from 2020 to 2021 at 37 percent. Hawaii (29 percent), Iowa (25 percent), and New Jersey (25 percent) followed closely behind.

The approaching Civil War?
You must be referring to the out of control crime committed by government and the FBI in particular. I suspect that a lot of these weapons purchases are occurring in already safe neighborhoods. People want to keep them safe, from criminals, including criminals employed by government.
Gee, I wonder why.
I looked at a Colt Cobra King at a show in Florida last week.
It was pretty.
And the action was smooth like butter.
Our freedom being taken away by the fascist democRATs and their Nazi “intelligence agencies” created by Obammie and Holder. That’s what is fueling it.
Not a studied theory but...
1. “You don’t need a gun. the police will protect you” Myth has been completely shattered.
2. the above was true BEFORE the “defund the police” movement and mass LEO exodus. Now it’s only worse.
3. more and more live in “under served” communities. Which have become defacto “no go” police zones. The police will not be there any time soon.
4. “real time” shows. Especially the real 911 types. Depicting a woman, with an attacker in the house.
With the 911 operator just saying “OH, Do not DO anything.”. “ I know you are trying to hide, so keep talking to me and making noise, so the attacker knows Exactly where you are what you’re doing”
.. “Ma’am? Ma’am? Are you dead yet? Ok, I will cancel police and send coroner, Thanks you for contacting 911! Have a nice day!”
And the correct answer is, increased crime & violence.
YouTube videos.
I’m not buyin’ any more guns. My household insurance won’t cover the boating accidental loos of the ones I had.
I live in a fairly quiet suburb, but I never go jogging without my .380, (9mm when merely walking).
Americans have ALWAYS taken care of themselves, government be damned.
Ping
If you had $500, buy a firearm that will hold its value as Fedzilla keeps devaluing the dollar. Just pick one with standard calibers such as .22, .357, .38, 9mm, 45 ACP, 5.56, 7.62, or 12 gauge.
When democrats rule it’s when people understand what communism is all about.

people wont say they want to defend against blacks... gee I wonder why...
I just had a thought. My wife’s dad had a LOT of brass ‘stuff’ like frogs, ash trays, about 15-20 pounds worth. Anyone know anyone that could use it to DIY their own reloads?
Also have a bunch of old copper tubing I cut up after removing an old line used to feed an ice cube maker in a fridge.
Four Reasons for the Surge in U.S. Gun Sales
1. Global Unrest
2. Mass Shootings
3. Threat of Tightening Policy
4. Tightening Supply Chain
Fear of our govt...................
I buy guns because the give-them-away-free business model failed.
